Simply a great song from a great band. From the masterful 1984 album Reckoning, here’s “So. Central Rain (I’m Sorry)” by R.E.M.

Open thread. What’s shakin’ out there in the internet tubes?

Alright, time for some rock’n'roll, kiddos.

The Beach Boys aren’t particularly known for being hairy 1970s hard rockers, but judging from this clip, perhaps they should be. This song is called “You Need a Mess of Help to Stand Alone” and is taken from the 1972 album Carl and the Passions “So Tough”. Brian Wilson actually co-wrote this song, but is nowhere to be seen in this performance. The days before hitting paydirt as an oldies act and trading in the scruffy beards for Hawaiian shirts were interesting indeed.

So much going on here that it’s hard to know where to begin…the mesmerizing “she don’t know” vocal breakdowns, the rhythm section of Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar, Mike Love’s fresh-from-the-shower look…just a great clip.

Open thread. I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

A mellower vibe than usual for Saturday Night Rock, but I’m sure you’ll agree it’s appropriate.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.
