A Fighter Signs On at Fox

BY TAYLOR MARSH

Oh, this will drive the Hillary haters wild.

It won’t make those liberals who ignored the lousy coverage Clinton got during the primaries happy either. You know, those
alleged progressives including bloggers and other Democratic activists who stood
by silently while pundits took gleeful whacks at Hillary for political sport.
This was in the TM.com headlines, but it’s just too good not to spotlight in a post. Howard Wolfson has signed on at Fox. (He’s also a partner with the Glover Park Group.) One of
his tasks will be taking on Karl Rove.

“I thought that Fox’s coverage during the primary was
comprehensive and fair and evenhanded,” Mr. Wolfson said Monday

in a telephone interview from Liverpool, England, where he was vacationing.
“It’s a huge audience, and it is important to have a strong,
progressive voice on the network.”

…The move seems to reflect a sentiment from among Clintonites that the
network was fairer to Hillary than any other outlet.

“The guy is very smart,” said fellow Fox News analyst Karl Rove.
“He strikes me as a very able guy and surprisingly pleasant and amiable.”
Rove added that he was impressed with the “Clinton attack machine.”
“I always admire a passionate advocate,” Bush’s brain explained.

Uh-oh, now Wolfson has done it. Calling Fox coverage of the primaries “fair
and evenhanded”
? He said the unthinkable. The unmentionable.
Done the unpardonable. He’s going to lose his progressive badge for this one.
Never mind that he is absolutely correct. No network was fairer to Hillary Clinton
than the Fox channel. When I first wrote this fact as a review I couldn’t believe what I was writing. However, it was true. When Hillary did the Bill-O interview
many of us couldn’t believe what we were seeing either. It was the best interview she
gave at the time.

The rub is that all this goes against the once imposed boycott of Democrats staying
off of Fox. (Not long ago I was on “The Radio Factor,” though it was on a day when
Bill-O was out.)
You know, because their entire editorial foundation is GOP spin
ad nauseam, with Democratic bashing on the side, especially when wingnuts like Brit Hume and Sean Hannity are front and center. No one’s doubting that, however, they have the largest cable audience
and they vote. Last time I looked this was the general election season.
We need people on every channel, every show, no matter the management biases.
It’s about winning.

Besides, after watching Fox’s treatment of Hillary, there’s no reason Howard wouldn’t do Fox. He fought like hell for Hillary. He’ll do the same for Democrats
and make the case for Obama too, I bet.

Wolfson v. Rove. I’m betting on Howard.
