What’s up with McCain’s lobbyists? We know some have had to resign. We also know he gets plenty of cash from them.
So far, Mr. McCain, who has locked up the Republican presidential nomination, has received more than $181,600 from lobbyists and trade groups, while Mr. Obama has received just over $6,000. – The New York Times
Katic Couric sat down with Rick Davis tonight for CBS Evening News. She asked a simple question. As you see from the video above, Rick Davis makes a pretty clear declarative statement.
Couric: How many lobbyists work here?
Davis: We don’t make it a litmus test for employment at the McCain campaign. It goes without saying that some people who are involved in the lobbying profession do it because they are interested in that side of the equation. They’re interested in government, they’re interested in congress, they’re interested in public service.
The Obama camp caught it immediately, sending out an email on the discrepency.
What does McCain’s campaign policy state? Via Time a two months ago:
MCCAIN CAMPAIGN POLICY
The Campaign policy with regard to lobbying by individuals affiliated with the Campaign is as follows:
1.) No person working for the Campaign may be a registered lobbyist or foreign agent, or receive compensation for any such activity. …
Which is it? You can’t have it both ways. Though it’s true, John McCain often does.
