Iraq Insists on Withdrawal Timetable

BY TAYLOR MARSH
–updated–

Wonder what McCain will do with this one?

This is the strongest signal yet sent from the Iraqis.

Iraq’s national security adviser said Tuesday his country will not accept any security deal with the United States unless it contains specific dates for the withdrawal of U.S.-led forces. … “Our stance in the negotiations underway with the American side will be strong … We will not accept any memorandum of understanding that doesn’t have specific dates to withdraw foreign forces from Iraq,” al-Rubaie said.- AP

On his new show on Sunday, GPS, Fareed Zakaria interviewed Iran’s foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki. Here’s part two of the interview. Interesting that Mottaki said the current status of forces agreement on the table would definitely not be signed, while President Bush said al-Maliki wouldn’t ask for a rigid timetable. Iran knows more about what’s going on in Iraq than our own president. Alert the media, because a lot of people missed it. They should have been listening more closely to Michael Ware.

“From the moment the first American tank crossed the…border to march on Saddam’s Baghdad, America was, by default, at war with Iran.” – Michael Ware

UPDATE: If you’re interested in Michael Ware’s part in Zakaria’s show this past Sunday, which focused on Iran’s involvement in Iraq, compliments of CD, who just emailed me the link. Really worth your time.
