Ad War Meets Message War

BY TAYLOR MARSH

Obama tries a little Reagan. The only people who can say they’re better off today than when George W. Bush took over are the super-rich.

From the campaign:

“So the first thing I want to do, Florida, is just ask you a very simple question. Do you think that you are better off now than you were four years ago or eight years ago? And if you don’t think you’re better off, do you think you can afford another four years of the same failed economic policies that we’ve had under George W. Bush? Can’t afford it.”

Obama’s comments were made on the day he proposed a $50 billion stimulus to help jump-start job creation and help local communities that are struggling due to our economic downturn. Obama also discussed his plan to put a middle class tax cut into the pockets of 95% of workers, provide relief to struggling homeowners, eliminate income taxes for seniors making less than $50,000 a year, and give a $1,000 emergency energy rebate that could go out to families as soon as this fall.

Meanwhile, “Celeb” goes… “Moses”? Yep. Yikes. Somebody in the McCain camp is getting numbers on this stuff. It must be sticking. From their email:

As the biggest celebrity in the world, Barack Obama began the week with a nine-point lead in the Gallup Tracking poll.

As Barack Obama rallied in front of 200,000 fans in Berlin, John McCain talked about the issues Americans care about on the campaign trail. We made up ground and ended the week even – tied in the Gallup Tracking poll.

While you have undoubtedly seen much on television about the campaign, it has been a great week for John McCain and we hope you had a good one too. In that spirit, we wanted you to see our latest fun video. We hope you enjoy it and have a great weekend. If you like it, please forward the video to your friends and then click here to make a contribution to John McCain.

That’s the trouble when you wait so long to define yourself, as Obama has done. The wingnuts will gladly do it for you.

Open thread. The floor is yours.
