Baseball Tonight

by Scott Hopkins
Reporting from Denver

A beautiful day for some baseball in downtown Denver with the Reds vs. the Rockies! A bit on the warm side perhaps, but in the shaded upper deck with a strong northern breeze, I couldn’t ask for a better environment. And anyway, this heat is nothing compared to Austin in late August.

As you can see from the photo, turnout wasn’t spectacular. The home team was down much of the game but rallied to a 3-3 tie in the 9th, which resulted in extra innings. Unfortunately, I had to bolt after the 11th…and missed the game winning homer by Quintanilla of the Rockies in the very next inning. No bother, it was still the exciting game I was hoping for.

I do still love this game, despite everything.

Tomorrow morning will be my first dispatch from the Big Tent, which will be my home base for much of my time here. Expect the posts to come fast and furious!

Oh, and I finally met Taylor and her husband Mark tonight, and a great time was had. What a delightful couple…and clearly made for each other. I hope to have more conversations with them before the week is out. Most importantly, we found out that you can sometimes find some good Mexican food north of the Texas/Oklahoma border.
