First Stop: The Grand Canyon

BY TAYLOR MARSH

News item of the morning comes from the WSJ U.S., Iraq Are Said to Have Set
Withdrawal Timetable
:

U.S. and Iraqi negotiators reached agreement on a security deal that calls for American military forces to leave Iraq’s cities by next summer as a prelude to a full withdrawal of combat troops from the country, according to senior American officials.

The draft agreement sets 2011 as the goal date by which U.S. combat troops will leave Iraq, according to Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Haj Humood and other people familiar with the matter. In the meantime, American troops will be leaving cities, towns and other population centers by the summer of 2009, living in bases outside of those areas, according to the draft.

As we got closer to November, this is what I predicted was likely to happen. Republicans inoculating themselves on Iraq. It’s not exactly “we won, let’s go home,” but it’s close.

We are officially Denver bound, baby.

Car’s packed. House sitter set. Well, I won’t list everything, but we’re ready and very excited.

We’ll end up at the Grand Canyon today at some point. I’ve never seen it and always wanted to. Many years ago when I drove from New York City to relocate in Los Angeles, it was one stop I missed. Not this time.

On the politics news, beware, there are a lot of fake text messages going out. Everyone you can possibly name has been mentioned, so hang in there, it’s not official yet. No doubt, we’ll be on the road when it happens. But thanks to my husband’s tireless efforts, an aircard is in hand. Dealing with AT&T on it, however, was a nightmare.

So, consider this an open thread. Once again, I’ll be twittering our trip for those interested.

On the road again… I’ll check in throughout the day. Blogging continues no matter what.
