| Celebrating McCain’s 69th birthday as Katrina hit. |
What a difference a nomination makes.
But really, it’s so touching that John McCain and the Republicans are worried about hurricane Gustav this time aroud. In fact, they’re
very concerned. Oh, not about the people of the Gulf Coast region. They’re concerned
that when Gustav hits they won’t get any publicity, so McCain
is dragging his team to the eye of the storm so they’ll get the maximum
coverage out of the tragedy, hoping that no one will remember where McCain was the last time.
Likely GOP presidential nominee John McCain and his running mate, Alaska
Gov. Sarah Palin, are traveling to Mississippi on Sunday to check
on people getting prepared for Hurricane Gustav.Their trip comes just as delegates are preparing for the Republican National
Convention, which begins Monday.Aides say McCain and his wife Cindy will join Palin in traveling to Jackson,
Miss., Sunday at the invitation of Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour because
of concerns about people threatened by the storm, which was heading
into the Gulf of Mexico and menacing the same area ravaged by Hurricane Katrina
three years ago. The storm could hit the United States as early as Monday
afternoon. … ..
This is political grandstanding of the worst kind. What possible good can
McCain and Palin do? McCain has no business making a star appearance when people
are trying to save lives and secure the city.
So because Gustav may rain on McCain’s convention coverage, the McCain campaign
is going down to the Gulf coast region so as not to be upstaged by the storm.
What has happened to John McCain? His ambition and lust for the presidency
has overtaken his humanity. I find this stunningly arrogant, as well as dangerous.
McCain has no business whatsoever in the middle of a massive evacuation. What
is he thinking?
McCain has made two important decisions recently: choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate, and visiting a category
5 hurricane zone. Neither judgment is sound.
