BY TAYLOR MARSH

Mr. Paulson has a problem. We the People aren’t buying it, the bailout, that is.
Americans oppose government rescues of ailing financial companies by a decisive margin, and blame Wall Street and President George W. Bush for the credit crisis.
By a margin of 55 percent to 31 percent, Americans say it’s not the government’s responsibility to bail out private companies with taxpayer dollars, even if their collapse could damage the economy, according to the latest Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll. …
But Paulson’s not the only one.
The question remains, what will McCain do, because ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos reports that Republicans won’t sign on without him. Well, seriously, why would they?
ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos reports: If Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain doesn’t vote for the Bush administration’s $700 billion economic bailout plan, some Republican and Democratic congressional leaders tell ABC News the plan won’t pass.
“If McCain doesn’t come out for this, it’s over,” a Top House Republican tells ABC News.
A Democratic leadership source says that White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten has been told that
Democratic votes will not be there if McCain votes no — that there is no deal if McCain doesn’t go along.McCain, taking questions from the traveling media today for the first time in 40 days, said he doesn’t yet know how he will vote on the bailout….
So, Republicans are waiting for McCain. Tick-tock, John, you’re on the clock. Pssst… Newt’s got your back.
