‘Respect’ and ‘Deference’ Watch

BY TAYLOR MARSH

Oh, this is just too priceless.

Rick Davis, campaign manager for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., just told Fox News Channel’s Chris Wallace that McCain running mate Gov. Sarah Palin won’t subject herself to any tough questions from reporters “until the point in time when she’ll be treated with respect and deference.” … “Sarah Palin will have the opportinity to speak to the American people,” Davis said. “She will do interviews, but she’ll do them on the terms and conditions” the campaign decides.

Palin Media Avoidance Watch: Day 9

Governor Palin will deign to take questions from one person in the media, ABC’s Charles Gibson, but only with “terms and conditions.” Frankly, it’s my belief Palin could handle just about anything put to her, so I don’t see the need for all this handling. She’s obviously nobody’s fool. Besides, Governor Palin is an adept political performer who can talk her way through any subject. That is, as long as she has the confidence to look at Gibson and say, on foreign policy issues, she’s been briefed, then quickly turn to McCain’s talking points. After all, she’s not the nominee. It’s easy.

But Davis’s statement does make you wonder. What “terms and conditions,” if any, were agreed upon for Gibson to get the interview?
