Seriously? We’re now offering explanations on “lipstick on a pig”?
Once again I find myself in the position of wondering why all those political “experts” are getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to advise Barack Obama to go out at a campaign event and offer explanations on a phrase.
What you do is you offer example after example of “lipstick on a pig” moments that tie Bush with McCain. Bush being the pig. McCain being the lipsick. On the economy, Bush wants tax cuts because he can’t create real jobs and stimulus, so McCain votes to put lipstick on the Bush economic pig by agreeing that the tax cuts should be permanent, a flip-flop from his former position. Bush is against offering women equal pay as in Ledbetter, so McCain comes out to say he’s for equal pay going forward, putting lipstick on Bush’s equality pig, while he and Palin give a nod to the frivolous lawsuit crowd, saying that’s the reason they were against Ledbetter, making lawyers matter more than women getting screwed. You can put lipstick on Bush’s equal pay pig, but when you back lawyers over women, it’s still a pig.
Of course, the biggest lipstick on a pig moment in the last years was Bush’s war in Iraq, which long ago went south, even as McCain pushed the lipstick of the surge. Surge lipstick or not, the Iraq war is still a pig. Gloss doesn’t help. However, the trouble with using this one is that Obama made the mistake of saying in the interview with O’Reilly that the surge worked beyond his “wildest dreams.” Another “what was he thinking?” moment. Because Obama offering lipstick for the Bush-McCain Iraq pig not only won’t get Dems into the White House. It takes the hog of all Republican hogs off the political dinner table.
As an aside, I do find it vaguely amusing that all those Obama blogs who carved Clinton up day after day during the primaries, as they dissected her every word, phrase and sentence deducing some meaning that didn’t exist, are now floundering that McCain’s team is putting meanings on Obama’s words that don’t apply and weren’t meant. Karma is a bitch and she’s vindictive.
