BY TAYLOR MARSH
She does. File this under dumb. Read the Constitution, Mrs. Palin, the vice president is not the majority leader.
Q: Brandon Garcia wants to know, “What does the Vice President do?”
PALIN: That’s something that Piper would ask me! … [T]hey’re
in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there
with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life
better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.
Now, no one expects your average citizen to know the nuances, but this woman is actually running for vice president. It would be nice if she actually knew the job for which she was auditioning.
The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided.
But that’s not even the worst part of this latest Palin tale. She’s been asked this question innumerable times and she keeps giving the same wrong answer. Think Progress has a further statement from the majority leader’s office, which is a hoot.
Chris Matthews is going at it with Patrick Buchanan over it. Buchanan is coming to her aid, making a fool of himself. Matthews is making the correct point. She’s telling people what her job as vice president will be. The issue is she hasn’t a clue.
If women are going to be taken seriously they need to be held to the same standards as men. A man who said something so incredibly ignorant would be pilloried.
This latest gaffe, actually implying that the vice president has legislative authority, makes what she said with Couric seem harmless. This woman has no business being anywhere near the White House. John McCain’s judgment is a joke. Making America pay for it through a possible Palin presidency is dangerous.
