McCain’s New Speech: ‘We’ve got them just where we want them.’

BY TAYLOR MARSH

Bill Kristol has it half correct. The biggest problem is the candidate, as witnessed from the video above, but also from McCain’s new speech today.

The speech McCain will give in Virginia Beach has one passage that particular caught my eye when it landed in my inbox. CNN
also posted it
:

Let me give you the state of the race today. We have 22 days to go. We’re
6 points down. The national media has written us off. Senator Obama is measuring
the drapes, and planning with Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid to raise taxes,
increase spending, take away your right to vote by secret ballot in labor
elections, and concede defeat in Iraq. But they forgot to let you decide.
My friends, we’ve got them just where we want them.

Is he kidding?

Now, I’m not one for getting over confident, which I’m not, knowing that anything can happen in three weeks. But this statement from McCain is particularly laughable. No one would want to be lagging behind, losing his brand, humiliated in papers across the country, including being pilloried by leading conservative columnists, with a running mate who was just found to have violated her oath of office through ethics violations, which was leveled by a Republican-heavy panel that excoriates her for abuse of power.

As for “whipping his you know what,” I haven’t a clue how he thinks
he’s going to do that on Wednesday, especially if past performances are any guide. Evidently McCain is more out of touch than we
knew.
