Irish-Scots guilt? Nah, not possible. So much going on that Wednesday’s high holiday didn’t get the nod it deserved. Considering all the Jews I’ve loved and befriended in my life, I couldn’t finish the week without acknowledging the importance of Yom Kippur, in my own perverse political way. Even more important than walking into an Episcopal church in the town I was born, only to hear the newly appointed female priest, with an Irish brogue no less, announcing the beginning of service from the back of the 19th century church I didn’t even know existed. This happening just two weeks ago. Discoveries never cease.
