A reminder of remainders, if you will, and that the era of partisan politics is anything but over. Compliments of John Cornyn of Texas, there will be no voice confirmation vote for HRC, with her name withheld from the unanimous consent vote held later today.
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s smooth ride to confirmation as secretary of state hit a small bump on Tuesday as one of her Republican colleagues blocked a vote on Mrs. Clinton’s nomination, citing ethical questions arising from donors to her husband’s charitable foundation.
Senator John Cornyn of Texas objected to including Mrs. Clinton’s name in a unanimous consent vote for several Cabinet nominees, scheduled for hours after the swearing-in of President-elect Barack Obama. The Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, plans to hold a roll-call vote on Mrs. Clinton’s nomination on Wednesday, which she is expected to win easily. [...]
Gov. Paterson of New York will have a little more time to get comfortable with his choice, because Senator Clinton will not resign until she’s confirmed.

A president can’t hold a grudge, but his Chief of Staff sure can. Hopefully Rahm Emmanuel will file this away in his “If we ever get a chance to screw this guy over” file. The file that will be opened once the important work is done and times are much better.
a small bump for Hillary, but very petty of Cornyn.
pure partisan politics.
Fox says Kennedy and Byrd expected to be “okay”
Cornyn is the pits. I can’t believe our state just reelected him.
THe most touching moment of the inauguration so far for me was during the troop review when Obama tried to shake the officer’s hand and the officer stepped back and saluted him.
Not sure if it was a moment of humility or one of gravity at his new responsibilities, but I thought it was poignant.
President and Mrs Obama are walking now. How great is that. Look at that smile.
First time since Carter. Can you imagine the poor SS they are probably going nuts.
I agree justlen that was very touching. But didn’t Michelle give the officer a kiss on the cheek? I thought she did. They are sooo in touch with people.

so cool! NBC just went to Andrea Mitchell on “flatbed one” :=)
I’m having a hard time watching and tending to my parrot who broke his top beak off yesterday, and of course posting here. LOL
Al Roker just yelled at Obama and he yelled back at him that it was warm. LOL How neat is that. Will the WH ever be the same again. That’s KO’s line, but a good one.

Al said earlier that he was going to try to interview Obama on the parade route, but that he expected to be ignored by the first Af-Am President, just like he has been ignored by all the others for the last 12 years.
So just the fact that Obama spoke to him, is a big win for Al. LOL
AG, I think that we are in for a great ride. I believe this country will be back, and we have a President that is warm and friendly to ALL!!!

I do too! I don’t think Washington is ready for the Obamas. It should be a great adventure for all of us.
Glenn Beck actually interviewing someone about the evils of liberalism during the inauguration parade… and Ari Fleischer had to enlighten him that the Inauguration is not payed for by taxpayers.

A floor vote on Clinton, as we reported earlier, was blocked by Republican John Cornyn of Texas. Her nomination will be on the Senate Floor tomorrow, and three hours of debate are scheduled.
The former first lady is expected to be confirmed easily.
Cornyn just made the first entry in Emmanuel’s little black book.
