Rachel Maddow, and David Siroda deliver it above. As for a real look at the Recovery and Reinvestment Act by the CBO, but not the one touted by Republicans that didn’t exist.
We need to maximize Democratic power (aka Obama won). No one gives a crap about how many Republicans sign on to the stimulus package as long as it passes. Note to Republicans: McCain lost and he got a dinner in his honor, which was a terrific gesture from now President Obama, but let’s get this done. Not with the focus on getting tax cuts to appease Republicans, but making certain all this money actually creates jobs and opens up green job opportunities. CNN’s Ed Henry asked Gibbs yesterday what is considered a green job, according to the Administration. The stimulus must lead to the answer of that question seen in results.

Hillary live on CNN in a few minutes.
I agree Taylor! Maddow and Siroda had the best discussion on television yesterday. This bi-partisan effort annoys me no end, I knew it would.
Siroda made the best point; if appeasing Repubs waters down the stimulus and makes it less effective Obama will be the one holding the bag.
Republican ideology on the economy have been proven wrong,in spectacular fashion, yet as I write CNN has them babbling on….and on…
Yeah, I hope everyone watches it, LL.
We’ll know soon enough, because Obama is going to speak after his meeting w/ Rep.

A president who actually communicates? What’s this world coming to?
I liked it the other day when he reminded them he won.

DaveB – I’m still chuckling from your last comment down thread.
Isn’t it wonderful that we suddenly have an intelligent and communicative President? Already I’m seeing the tempo Obama is setting and I’m liking it more and more everyday. I just hope he keeps this up and never gives in to the temptation of deceiving the American people the way Bush & Co. did.

Agreed. To the victor etc. I didn’t see anything wrong with his comment. I think GWB said almost the same thing with his comment about “political capital.” I didn’t hear too many complaints then but of course not too many people were really paying attention to how he was using his capital. At least we can see where Obama is going.
I sure hope djjl is doing okay. Having experienced a couple of power outtages during ice storms, it is no fun!
The Republican strategy is transparent. Whine and scream and force the Democrats to give them stuff they want. Then vote NO and say it’s all the Democrat’s fault, and appease their Hannity/Rush constituency who doesn’t want them to cooperate at all.
Then they say, see, things are still bad because they wouldn’t cut your taxes OR See, things didn’t get as bad as they would have because we got a few concessions from them on their otherwise bad bill.
I’m so hoping Obama will call them on it. He had to reach out and give them a chance, so he wasn’t seen as partisan.
I hope this is one of the times he pleasantly surprises me instead of unpleasantly.
Well as a Democrat and an Obama voter I must be honest and say I oppose this particular stimulus package. I don’t care whether he won or not – my opinion is they all need to take more time and get it right.
Did Hillary have her press conference already?
I don’t know Betsy. I turned over to CNN when IndyRobyn mentioned it but have not heard anything from her? Maybe I missed it.
kris…you know they keep talking about things that are shovel ready. Well if you read the CBO that Taylor provided it is not all going out at once. I agree that if we are going to go this much more in hock that 21st century infrastructure should be the way to go. Things like an updated electricity grid,a battery that works, and mass transit should be emphasized even if they are not currently shovel ready, won’t getting to that point employ people?
I have no issue with updated the electricity grid, mass transit, etc. at all.
I have problems with other parts of the stimulus package. We did this is in a hurry just a few months ago and it did nothing.
Personally I don’t think any of them know what to do and my concern is we are throwing good money after bad. Plus – who is going to buy this debt. Certainly the Chinese cannot as they have in the past.
I’ve been flipping from MSNBC to CNN and haven’t seen anything yet
Plus LL if they don’t stabilize the banking system it is all wasted time and money.
The banking system seems to be still shrouded in mystery?

They tried that to the tune of the first 350 billion, CITI Bank bought a 50 million dollar Jet promptly and the banks that were bailed out do even less lending then banks that were not bailed out these days. Part of it was Paulson and Company’s ideology getting in the way of insisting that the 350 billion be used to unfreeze the credit markets — which is what it was sold to both the Congress and the people as being for.
More Bush administration “Bait and Switch”!
I agree. The Democrats will be accountable for this bill.
They have the majority in Congress. Obama is the architect of the bill.
And it was “rope-a-dope” time for Republicans to vote with this bill.
Obama has been selling this as “emergency, emergency!”
Except, the bill isn’t at all about emergency measures. It’s stuff like Head Start, etc.
It’s a spending bill, packaged as a stimulus bill.
If I were a blue dawg (which I am, actually) or a Republican, I’d pass.
