Heads Up!

Today around noon, we’re going to take the site down for some serious maintenance, which will take a while. An all hands on deck situation. If all goes accordingly it will be well worth it in the end.

So, in the meantime, consider this a topic free for all.

    Okay, I’ll start …

One of the interesting things Republicans pointed out this past week was the fact Rush Limbaugh has 10 million fans.
That’s a half-sided point. You could say the singer Carrie Underwood also has ten million fans.
The difference is — the *rest* of the country doesn’t think Ms. Underwood is a detestable, vile, skum-of-the-earth creature. *L*
That’s why it was totally brilliant for Obama to *help* move Limbaugh to the front. The only other person to get more negative ratings than Bush — was Blago.

On another topic (I love this time of day when everyone agrees with me ;-) I’m sad to see Hannity kicking Rachel’s tail in the ratings. I said nearly a year ago Rachel was *totally* talented but I also said she needed a good counterpart (her favorite pretend ‘uncle’, Pat Buchanan, would have been great). Rachel needs to back off from all these guests that totally agree with her (or “talk her down”).
Believe it or not, I think if I was an MSNBC exec I would go to the financial limits to pair Ann Coulter and Rachel in the same show. Sure – Ann totally twists facts, but she’s certainly arrogant enough to look stupid beside Rachel without caring. She’s proven that (she’s not afraid to appear stupid).
On the other hand, I believe Hannity’s lack of conflict is going to hurt him as well – eventually. Bottom line is people want to see (intelligent?) fights – not an hour of preaching to the choir.

… and now that I’ve used the word “totally” far too many times within a few paragraphs (sorry – sometimes ‘daughter influence’ kicks in when I get tired) … I will get my butt back to work. :-)

OH MA GAWD I hope these “improvements” don’t improve me out of being able to post!!! That’s happened on more then one occasion. Then the site will tech support and say “just go into your blahblahblah” I AM A COMPUTERTARD people. Keep it simple for poor ol secularhumanizinevoluter huh?

  5. pmichael 31 January 2009 at 8:14 am #

Oh come now, Sec. You’ve been ‘posting’ for 50 years.

Michael, if they teamed Rachael with Anthrax Coulter they would lose me and probably a heck of a lot more steady viewers. When I see that ‘thing’ on a station I’m fast with the clicker!.
She simply has nothing to say that I want to hear.

Obama names 26 year old Pentecostal minister Josh Dubois to head Faith Based Initiatives. Dubois was responsible for Donnie McClurkin and made the recommendation of Warren for the Inauguration. Lord and Lady Obama needs to stop sticking his finger in the gay communities eye…

  8. secularhumanizinevoluter 31 January 2009 at 10:44 am #

Actually I DID used to know Morse. I would imagine even now if you’re in Uncle Sugar’s big mean green machine you at a cursery course in it. When you can’t speak cause the bad guys are all about you just send Morse by clicking your mike on and off.Probably could pick it up again real quick if I had to.
Rachael just dosen’t have the UMPH to carry a show on her own. As a guest commentater she’s great. But too much and she comes across as leftwing smarmy. Just as obnozious as rightwingnut smarmy. Americans just don’t like smarmy. ESPECIALLY after the last 8 years.

  9. pmichael 31 January 2009 at 10:47 am #

    SusanElizabeth –
it’s difficult to disagree *L* – but I still think it would make them a lot of money.

    Meanwhile:
Iraqi Voters select provincial Councils in Saturday’s Vote

I’m sorry, but this has simply lost its ‘thrill’ with me. Over 4,000 Young & Strong Americans have died for this. In my county, one in seven Americans are now standing in the unemployment line – largely for this, as well as big corp greed (Exxon shows the largest profits in the HISTORY of corporations while we get tossed out on the street???). The richest 10% in this country DOUBLE THEIR INCOMES while under Bush’s watch.
Yet Republican politicians are STILL claiming we need to LOWER THEIR TAXES even more ????

    What a world.
And they thought we were freaky in the 60s.

  10. pmichael 31 January 2009 at 10:49 am #

    Sec – you owe me $10 ;-)

  11. Benny 31 January 2009 at 10:58 am #

I don’t see any evidence connecting Josh DuBois and Clurkin or Warren. Got links?

  12. pmichael 31 January 2009 at 10:58 am #

BTW – what you will NOT hear in our MSM is the fact, of all the Iraqi candidates participating in this election – *eight* have already been killed.

  13. Audiegrl 31 January 2009 at 10:59 am #

I think the very clever Obama team, needs to not only highlight how many jobs would be created in the Republican districts, but also how many people living in Republican districts are now without power for the next month. (due to the terrorist ice storm attack -hat tip to Rachel M) Send out mailers with those statistics to those homes with a number to call their congressman. That should just about do it. :-)

As the ‘election’ in Iraq us a popular topic today – take a look at what a ‘female’ is risking there …

Thanks, Ice. I found another one in the NYT.

  16. pmichael 31 January 2009 at 11:16 am #

Iceblinkjm – I am watching a nationwide transition between the concept of gays being a ‘choice’ (sick, sinful, and outrageous) to the concept that gays may actually be born that way and never had a ‘choice’ (making the concept of ‘curing them’ simply a stupid idea).
I wish we could now take a national poll as to how people stand on that concept – and it would identify *immediately* where every politician stood.

Not being able to post on more than one occasion? Hey secularh, you never told me about that!

The site will be down, fully down, so nobody will be able to post until the maintenance is done.

At the end, we fully intend it to be worth it and will work with you all to make sure it is.

Don’t worry, secularh. But if you do end up having trouble just contact us. We’ll get it straightened out. Promise.

Wow! Like the new look, didn’t like not having you for the weekend, but it looks like it was worth it. Great job Taylor.

  19. AnninCA 03 February 2009 at 9:47 am #

Will we be able to respond directly to comments? That would be a nice feature.

Ann Coulter and Rachel, huh? That would be too shrill for me, I think.

  20. AnninCA 03 February 2009 at 9:49 am #

Limbaugh has an audience of 14 million weekly, which simply puts him into the limelight for conservative talk shows. He’s made hay off of the latest dust-up with Obama.
