As justlen said in the previous thread, it’s quite a concert.
From the previous thread, worth repeating:
I don’t want to sound maudlin or over sentimental but in watching the the concert from Washington I feel as though I finally have my country back and the Constitution too. It’s too simplistic to say that the long nightmare is over. For the past 8 years I have felt as if I didn’t know my own country because we seemed to have left our honor and integrity behind us. Maybe it’s too early, too premature to say that things will change but I honestly believe they will because suddenly it’s the people who have become an important part of what is happening today.

I have a lump in my thoat and tears in my eyes as I am watching this concert today and all the feelings and all the beliefs I have held for so many years in what my country stands for are coming back. Let’s renew the belief in our great country and be the guiding light for the rest of the world. There is so much that is good about America and I am so proud to be an American.
Renee Fleming…
…and now Garth! Too much.
I just love it!!!!
It was fun until Garth sang “Shout.”
They couldn’t find a black guy?
STUNNING.
…if Streisand showed up I’d need resuscitation.

Oh come on justlen -he’s got me rocking.
Get with the program, justlen, this isn’t politically correct, it’s ART.

me too. I’d never be the same again.
Oh lighten up, Francis, I was kidding.
Taylor – I think you’re going to get your wish about ART coming back to Washington and this country. If this concert is any indication I think we’re going to see a lot more like this.
Please God, let Jay Z show up.
awesome show in HBO…
I’m proud of our country.

interesting and pondering look on Obama’s face after Bono’s Israeli dream.. and Palestinean dream comment.
BONO—
My Irish side is getting goose bumps :=)
What was that second song U2 sang?
meant Palestinian… Knew that looked wrong
WOW — Love the EAGLE!!! That is sweet!
That eagle is just majestic!
Sorry Taylor.. guess no Babs!
I gotta ask this and I know it’s a dumb silly question but – do you think Obama will wear a top hat on Tuesday?
Oh my gosh, my neighbor, Pete Seeger! I can’t believe it.
Jane A — Your neighbor?
Don’t think Barack grew up singing this song!… Meaning This land is Your Land!
Pete Seeger, what a God.
Jane, tell your “neigbor” my stepdaughter thinks he’s adorable and she wants to bring him home.

Yeah, Pete lives up in the mountain; I live at the bottom of the mountain. Every June we have the Strawberry Festival down on the Hudson and Pete comes and we sing this song. I’ve known Pete for years; when younger I used to go out on the “Clearwater” sloop which was all about cleaning the Hudson River.

don’t think so
And so…. a new chapter begins. We welcome it with hope and a call to service.
awesome.
Pete used to keep an eye on my son and his friends when they were up in the mountain camping. He’d let me know when they were getting too rowdy. I just love Pete.
Garth singing Shout is tres hilarious. Seeger and The Boss singing This Land is Your Land is very moving.
And now Beyonce. My cup runneth over.

really? I took it all seriously.
that was cool, I want more.
Dude, chill out. She doesn’t want to be called Sasha Fierce — it’s just an alter ego for her wilder side, as expressed on one disc of her new two-disc album.
Taylor will love this:

LOL thanks for enlightening me oh wise one. from now on you’re the go to guy for pop culture.
WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! I sat hear bawling my eyes out. For the first time in years I am proud of our country. To see the faces of the young people smiling, laughing is just joyful. And the music all was so moving.
I missed the first hour so I hope there will be a repeat.
The live broadcast is over. Please come back at 7PM and 11:30PM ET/PT for an encore presentation.

Your satellite showed it Betsy? Because my cable company DID NOT, damn them, I watched it at HBO.com

Fine show. I only wish Joe Biden would have said something else, but he is what he is. The Lincoln Portrait by Hanks didn’t work too well either, but I know he wanted to participate.
The eagle near Lincoln was poignant. I had tears roll down my cheeks during that part of the show, but then I am a patriotic slob.
GeoT, yes DISH showed it and I just was so happy that they did.
By the way, the eagle Challenger flies at football games and many other events. She was found by a family as a very young eaglet knocked out of her nest. They took her home and raised her not knowing they were supposed to call the wildlife people. It’s against the law to do that. Anyway, she is now the symbol for our Country.
GeoT | 01.18.2009 – 4:30 pm | #
Dude, ease up. I’m not getting into it with you over Beyonce and alter egos. I meant the comment as a minor clarification, not a put-down. No need for the “wise one” comment, my good friend.
Justlen:
2nd song was: “City of Blinding Lights”

you’re misreading, I was joking from beginning to end, but I’ll dude ease up.

Whew! You had me scared for a second. I was wondering what I said to set you off
they’re saying 1/2 million people there today but it didn’t look like that many. They’re calling it “OBAMA-STOCK” over at HuffPo :=)
Thanks, GeoT.
That concert was stunning, I laughed, I cried, I got up and danced with my husband.
I have Comcast digital, and they now have an Obama channel, that has some of his speeches going back to 2004 and other goodies.
p.s.
I flipped by Faux News and they are still arguing about the stimulus plan. That is there version of Inauguration coverage. Can they possibly be this stupid? Even if they hate Obama, they must know they are hurting their ratings this weekend.

they even managed to do a story on Rev. Wright (who is speaking at Howard University today)
Idiots…
Since I live bout 30 miles from DC I went in to see the concert live. Unfortunately by the time I got to the Lincoln Memorial there was no space left so I ended up watching it by the Washington Monument on the jumbo screens. The amount of electricity in the air was amazing. The mood among the people is a combination of celebration that Obama will be president in two days and that a cloud over our country is being lifted.
GeoT, I agree with you, it seemed to me that it wasn’t half a million. I’ve been in DC for the fireworks when they have had 400-500 thousand, and it covers most of the mall and the Washingtoon Monument. Still had to be 300,000+. I can’t imagine how many people will be in DC on Tuesday. If it really is 2 million it will be tough to move.

someone said maybe 5 million but is that even possible? I hope they have coverage of the parties afterwords.
REPLAY NOW:
http://www.hbo.com/weareone/
Just got back home, but watched the concert at the club house, and all I can say is WOW. It was really funny to sit with a bunch of bad ass bikers and watch them tear up. It really feels like a cloud has lifted and the sunshine is beaming down on this country again.
I’m watching it now. All I kept thinking when Garth was singing is that those kids singing with him will never forget this. New politics have come to town!!!
I think you are right about the clouds and sunshine angels81. I just finished watching on the computer (Did you have to pay to see it on TV? If so, I disagree with that). Very uplifting and inspirational. Barack looked like he was having a good old time. I loved Bruce Springsteen and “The Rising” – thought it was very powerful. Also loved Bettye Levette? and Jon Bon Jovi. For what it is worth I thought Tom Hanks was excellent. If you have ever been to Gettysburg, it is a very awesome and humbling experience. Bono was really good, too. I really like him. Renee Fleming was beautiful. That was a very well put together concert. I just hope we really get the change we need so badly – fundamental change like in Abe Lincoln, FDR, and JFK.
lynette, HBO broadcast it for free. And all I can say is that it was absolutely awe inspiring.
I see. I don’t have HBO on my TV. Good thing I have a computer.
