Well, I guess as MSNBC said “he sounded like Obama”. I’m sure the Repubs are trying to get back to where they were a few years ago with this election of Steele. Personally, I think he’s as sleazy as Bush. Anyone who runs for the Senate seat and puts out a bumper sticker that has him as a democrat to get votes is just that, sleazy.
Remember these dirty tricks from Steele?
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/michael_steele/
I hate to sound cynical but I’m reading this selection as a “hey look, we got a black leader in our party too”.
If this is an attempt to attract minorities then Republicans really are clueless. Michael Steele couldn’t win an election in a deeply blue state like Maryland with a large African American population.
Republicans are becoming more and more of a joke. Instead of using gimmicks to win votes, it would nice if they were able to present sound policies that haven’t already proven to be a failure.
I’m a fan of the two party system….hopefully we’ll find a second party to replace the clowns on the right and we can continue this tradition.
Steele’s speech was given in an alternate universe. We’re going to win in the south, they’re going to own the west, watch out northeast, “baby.”

Taylor, I’m still wiping tears of laughter from my eyes. I thought he was going to take out three balls and do a juggling act as he spoke.
Weird. Weird. Weird, BG.
I like him, but I don’t know a lot about him, either.
I just liked his response to several recent issues.
We’ll see.
The selection of Michael Steele is just as transparent and offensive as the selection of Sarah Palin. The Repubs thought that by selecting Palin, as a woman, she would steal all of Hillary’s votes. In this case, they think that by having Steele, they will somehow magically bring minorities into the Republican party. Phu-leeeze.
This is the same guy who screeched on Faux News during the primaries and GE against President Obama, repeating all the Repub talking points with glee. The same guy that in 2006 out-of-state homeless men to hand out misleading campaign literature in African-American neighborhoods.
This is also an attempt to have Steele be out front, to attack Obama, and be able to say, well he is African-American too, so what he says can’t possibly be racist or offensive.
This just makes me sick to my stomach, but more determined to work even harder against the Republican hypocrites.
Steele’s a piece of work:
While speaking to the Baltimore Jewish Council, Michael Steele compared doctors conducting stem cell research to Nazis performing human experiments during the Holocaust: “You of all folks know what happens when people decide to experiment on human beings, when they want to take your life and use it as a tool.” [Associated Press, 2/10/06]
Oh justlen, that’s right! How could I forget about that one?
Steele is what the Republican Party is all about. What a lousy choice.
justlen | 01.30.2009 – 4:21 pm | #
good grief. why do they always bring up Nazis? The minute you do, you lose.
Taylor, I just got in and have been catching up on the postings. Congratulations to your husband and to you for making such a good choice in men.
I guess they had to do something to make up for Alan Keyes heading to the Constitution party.
good grief. why do they always bring up Nazis? The minute you do, you lose.

Godwin’s Law, sweetie:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_Law
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=100057050&ft=1&f=1012
Here is an interesting piece about Saul Alinsky
This whole thing is just laughable. I love the fact that Andrea Mitchell showed the bumper sticker. As usual the Republican party is filled with dishonest and desperate people.
Now, after having said that I do have to say that I don’t believe the average Republican is in that category, but I do believe that the Republican politicians leave alot to be desired. Who in the hell do they think they are kidding. And I agree with Brooklyn Girl that they voted for him so they could put an AA in there to oppose Obama, and claim that he’s black too.
You know Godwin’s law allows that there appropriate comparisons.
From justlen’s wiki link:
However, Godwin’s Law itself can be abused, as a distraction or diversion, that fallaciously miscasts an opponent’s argument as hyperbole, especially if the comparisons made by the argument are actually appropriate. A 2005 Reason magazine article argued that Godwin’s Law is often misused to ridicule even valid comparisons.

Not surprised at all, especially after Blackwell threw his support behind him. He’s actually more articulate than most Repubs.

Can you believe this is the depths the party of the “great communicator” has sunk?
Here’s my real thought. Buckle up, Steele.
You’re about to get the Palin treatment.
Oh, as they swing more to the right they’ll sink lower.
You’re about to get the Palin treatment.

I don’t think so, Steele’s at least semi-literate, and doesn’t think Jesus rode on Dinosaurs. So far as we know.
You betcha.
I am laughing my ass off at the comments on various GOP sites…They really do not have a clue.
I’m LMAO at justen’s last comment!
I’m still LMAO at people regurgitating GOP lies about the EFCA.

Give this man a drink on the house! Taylor it’s friday let’s have Tip O’Neal night!
What I don’t understand is all the deference paid to the Repubs by the MSM. Their policies, both foreign and domestic have utterly failed.
I think I get what Obama is doing but it makes me impatient because I am partisan. I am willing to trust him, but it does not feel completely comfortable to me..
Congrats to your hubub (daughter’s nickname for husband) Taylor!
OK, maybe I was wrong, and I’m man enough to admit it.
Steele has two sons, so I guess he can’t have a daughter get pregnant by a dropout son of a drug dealing Mommy.
Also I don’t think there’s any Wolves in Maryland so he can’t shoot them from a helicopter. also.
Don’t get me started on the helicopters and those poor wolves. Watching those videos made me heart and soul sick. Palin is one cold hearted snake.

Send the ‘first dude” on his snow machine. However, with the ice he should swap out his silk boxers for longjohns.
Well at least we can have some good laughs at the expense of the GOP. They haven’t got a clue that they are so outdated that the only thing we can do is to laugh at them. In some sense I feel sorry for them because they come across as desperate and pathetic.
Heard about that Jane. Postmen are going to carry unbrellas to defend themselves. LOL

Maybe the postmen should carry photos of Palin to scare them. She is the mortal enemy of all turkeys.

Maybe they should just pack a bag of turkey food.

A Risky Strategy
The House GOP’s anti-Obama stand risks marginalizing a wounded party.
By Eleanor Clift
Jan 30, 2009
http://www.newsweek.com/id/182380
Couldn’t happen to better folks.
Hey, I just heard Steele’s a Muslim.
I think we need to demand his COLB.
This is just too good.
“Have the Republicans no shame? After swarming around President Obama like adolescent girls swooning over the Jonas brothers, getting their picture taken with him and accepting his invitation to a White House cocktail party, every Republican in the House still voted like Rush Limbaugh instructed them to—registering a big fat “no” on Obama’s stimulus plan. It was their way to signal solidarity with the GOP base and its talk-show mouthpieces. But stiffing a popular president in the middle of an economic crisis risks further marginalizing a party already on the ropes.”
Just had to share this image with everyone. The lake is frozen and snow covered. The migratory geese have keep a open area. The sun is setting and they are coming back from their day of foraging in groups. They are making their spectacular landings through the sunset.
Sometimes you have to just stop and appreciate what you have
Spectacular Lake Lady
Thanks for the portrait
djjl | 01.30.2009 – 5:41 pm | #
Their strategy is all wrong. They should have waited before they started to oppose Obama. Instead they came out looking vindictive in addition to obstructionists. This is not going to go well with the American people who are desperate for some solutions to the economic crisis.
JA
Completely agree with you. The people want them to work together.
Lord…have kept an open area…Sheesh…!
The freepers are melting down:
“And he is certifiably black enough to criticize Obama too ! Wonder if he has authentic slave blood though…”
djjl | 01.30.2009 – 5:47 pm | #
I really don’t see the majority of the Repubs working with the Dems or Obama. With them it’s “my way or the highway.” You have no idea the anger of the Repubs up here. They don’t know whether to s..t or go blind. And that’s the way I’m looking at the GOP today. They still haven’t figured out that their ideology has gone the way of Edsel.
djjl and Jane…completely agree! Political posturing when this country is on it’s knees! Shows them for what they are; selfish, mean spirited, wrong headed and in denial.
It is just a little scary. When they get out of denial some will be dangerous.
I’ll be tuning in to Washington Week tonight ………should be interesting.
Maybe this is how we can wrench back control of this country – away from conglomerate media.
Wow, I just saw that Mayor Bloomberg announced that he may have to lay off 23,000 public employees in NYC.
justlen | 01.30.2009 – 5:48 pm | #
good grief!
Can we say “irrelevant?”
“Can GOP Still Enjoy Its Retreat?
The Republican National Committee sets to work this weekend. But a new poll shows the GOP can only claim significant voter majorities in a handful of states. We explore what’s in store at the RNC’s annual weekend retreat and who they’re considering as a new party chair.”
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=100057036&ft=1&f=1012
djjl | 01.30.2009 – 5:57 pm | #
NYC has terrible financial problems right now and it’s going to take a miracle to get them out of it. I expect more layoffs.
Bloomburg also wants resturants to reduce the salt they use by 50%. He can be a little much sometimes.
Well, I’ve been waiting a long time for the Republicans “trickle down” to happen. They scream about “redistribution of wealth” – they only worry when the real workers might get to keep some of what they have created. They have long been the dominant force in the redistribution of wealth – from the many to the few.
The last 8 years have seen the biggest shift in wealth since right before the depression, I believe.
Where did Ann go. I guess she left since we were picking on the Repubs.
JA the republicans here are so angry it’s too funny. I haven’t read the local talk show hosts blog in the past week. I figure he’s probably angry and hateful.
Karma is a bitch:)
Lake Lady | 01.30.2009 – 6:03 pm | #

I mingle with alot of Repubs; can’t help it; it’s a Repub county. I am shocked at what I’m hearing people say in social gatherings. My son-in-law actually had to ask one of his neighbors to leave my daughter’s birthday party last week because the guy was using some really objectionable racial language and in front of my 7 year old grandson. I might add language that just has never been allowed in my family.
