Couldn’t resist posting the video above. It’s blue, so consider yourself forewarned.
For the news today concerning Israel and the Palestinians, see the TM headlines.
Well, it’s amazing who I’m hearing from now that our relocation city is out of the bag. Moving to Washington, D.C. will be quite an adventure. Thanks for all your emails and comments, including on Facebook and through Twitter.
A couple of “In the News” items. Reader nancy50 posts an item that posits it might be Caroline Kennedy for Senate. Dundee19 posts an article on Washington and Israel from Glenn Greenwald, though that’s long before the Holocaust and the state of Israel hit history. History doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Quite a back and forth ensued over Betsy’s posting.
On another note, I’ve posted on the Facebook group “Tear Down This Myth,” the title of Will Bunch’s new book.
Consider this a topic free for all. Have at it.

Congratulations Taylor on your move! I cant think of a place you are needed more than DC. I do not post much anymore as I have been absorbed (obsessed?) with learning about and reacting to the Great Financial Shitpile, but I still follow you daily and look forward to your positive impact on the issues of the day from the seat of political power.
Thanks, Jammer, very kind words. Lots of work to do, no doubt.
…and it is certainly worthy of the name “the Great Financial Shitpile.”
more on Kennedy…

I am sure Ms. Kennedy is a very capable person in her own right.(though you sure can’t tell from her off the cuff speaking) However I DO find it entertaining listening to some of the same voices that went on at length about Senator Clinton just ridding the family name or she shouldn’t get the nomination because they were sick of this royal passing of the torch gushing ecstatic over the prospect of “continuing” the dynesty or redoing Camelot. Must be nice to be able to cruize through life on the accomplishments or money and name of your family.
Happy New Year to one and all!
Congratulations on your move to Wash., DC, Taylor. My husband was joking around with me last week and said if he were you he’d move to Washington since you are such a “political animal.” By the way he still reads your articles every day, as I do, and says you’re usually on the money. Good luck to you and may all your dreams come true.
Speaking of Caroline Kennedy – this is one New Yorker who just does not agree that she’s the best pick even as an interim senator. If she’s picked it’s because someone is “twisting arms.” My pick is and has always been Carolyn Maloney. She has represented her district well and has a stellar record. I don’t know what Ms. Kennedy can do for New York. She does not speak to my needs or most of my friends’ needs. I feel like she’s being shoved down my throat and for me that’s not a good feeling.
Nomination for most obnoxious commentary of 2009, Dennis Prager:
“Why would a loving, wise woman allow mood to determine whether or not she will give her husband one of the most important expressions of love she can show him? What else in life, of such significance, do we allow to be governed by mood?
What if your husband woke up one day and announced that he was not in the mood to go to work? If this happened a few times a year, any wife would have sympathy for her hardworking husband. But what if this happened as often as many wives announce that they are not in the mood to have sex? Most women would gradually stop respecting and therefore eventually stop loving such a man,”
I once heard Prager endorse the idea of publicly shaming unwed teenage mothers. Wonder how whether he still believes that, or does he now endorse teenage mothers ever since Bristol Palin?
Parts of the religious right seem to have left the human race. I hope this guy isn’t married.

John H – this is worse than obnoxious; it’s downright insulting and demeaning. I can’t believe there are males of the species out there who still believe this crap.
Ah, so now the Israelis are bombing the refugee camps in Gaza.
I see. Move the natives out – put them in camps – then come back later and slaughter them. Sounds awfully familiar.
Can you spell: “George Custer” ?

I will refrain from commenting any more on Betsy’s post. New year and all that. TM, congrats on the move to DC. As you’ve noted, it really is a beautiful city. Jogging on the Mall at dawn (or dusk) really brings it home. Welcome, welcome. We are lucky to have you.
Just remember one thing about DC. It’s all about the ‘Skins. (Wait, that came out wrong.) It’s all about the Redskins. (Umm, still doesn’t sound right.) Okay, it’s all about the BURGUNDY AND GOLD!!!
Taylor, I had a sense that you might move to DC. You’ve been hinting at it for some months. It’s good that your DH is willing to pull up stakes and move with you to the place of power, and for you to explore it more deeply via blogging, commentary on radio shows (I hope XM Radio–channel 130), and getting some good bits to share via the State Department since you are in Hillary’s back pocket. I sometimes wonder if Obama was listening to you about Hillary being on a bigger world stage.
I put TM on my blogroll at Benny’s World so that my readers can also follow your reporting. And yes, I’ll be following you on FB and when I get a better idea how to use Twitter to my advantage–that too.
Meantime, I wanted to let you and others know that I’ve become a D/VJ (not video, but virtual jockey) on Blip.fm. You can find me under “Bennae”. I always thought Blip was more for videos, but it turns out it is for music as well. Last night, I experimented with an Acoustical Friday, and today, I will probably do songs from famous musicals. Hope you all will tune in. I do not get any revenues from doing this–it’s more for fun.
Happy NY to the Marshans…
Happy New Year, and may everyone prosper in 2009.

Amen re: radio. …and thanks for all your support. Keep us posted on “Bennae” through “In the News.” Very cool.
Again, Happy New Year to everyone and thanks again for all the emails, etc.
Pragmatic Obama again….

Obama moves to counter
China with Pentagon-NASA link
President-elect Barack Obama will probably tear down long-standing barriers between the U.S.’s civilian and military space programs to speed up a mission to the moon amid the prospect of a new space race with China.
That photo at the top of the page sure as hell looks like Willie Peter rounds impacting. White Phospherous(spelling anyone?) Unless I’m mistaken it is against the Genevue Convention, to which Israek is a signator, to use WP against personel or civilians.

is that a cluster bomb?
Richardson wasn’t forthcoming? What a crock of BS. The story about Richardson’s federal investigation was released prior to the appointment.
Obama team is full of it on this one.
