In introducing her boss, Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton once again continued to put down the doubters.

“…We want to do our very best work in furtherance of your goals. … I pledge to you on behalf of the thousands of dedicated public servants who serve you on behalf of diplomacy and development our very best efforts. It is an honor to be working to fulfill the goals you have set for our country. Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States.”

Obama responded in kind.

“… I’ve given you an early gift: Hillary Clinton.” – President Barack Obama

I get choked up over moments like this…

There is genuine warmth between Hillary and Obama.
And I thought the “thank you” that Holbrook gave Obama for appearing there was really great.

Here it is for those who didn’t see it I’ve posted them all.

Well … I for one, am just blown away. Hillary was magnificent. Obama was powerful, decisive, respectful to the process AND Hillary.

Betsy I agree…it seems that throughout their battle they each gained respect for the other.I think she would have put him on her ticket in a hearbeat. He is so smart he is not going to let the country not benefit from her talents.I think that was too many nots!!

It was such a powerful signal sent that the Bush-Cheney militarization of foreign policy is O. V. E. R. Military action is just one aspect of our national security.

Did you see Obama’s statement on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade?:

On the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we are reminded that this decision not only protects women’s health and reproductive freedom, but stands for a broader principle: that government should not intrude on our most private family matters. I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose.

While this is a sensitive and often divisive issue, no matter what our views, we are united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, reduce the need for abortion, and support women and families in the choices they make. To accomplish these goals, we must work to find common ground to expand access to affordable contraception, accurate health information, and preventative services.

On this anniversary, we must also recommit ourselves more broadly to ensuring that our daughters have the same rights and opportunities as our sons: the chance to attain a world-class education; to have fulfilling careers in any industry; to be treated fairly and paid equally for their work; and to have no limits on their dreams. That is what I want for women everywhere.

The Gag Rule is why DeMint said no to Clinton at State. He gave a long speech about abortion preceding his vote against.

They just won’t shut up about poor Caroline. With all the news today I wish they would just tone down the damn criticism.

In some ways its a little depressing that having responsible adults as POTUS, VPOTUS, and SOS is in itself a reason for celebrating. But we haven’t had it in 8 years (I didn’t have a problem in principle with Powell or Rice, but it was clear that Bush only wanted their agreement when it came to policy. I am assuming Obama actually wants Hillary’s opinions, whether or not he shares them).

I could actualy envision a session between Obama, Biden and Clinton where they throw out ideas on a particular problem. I couldn’t conceive of that with Bush, Cheney and Powell or Rice. I also think Obama is smart enough to know that at this point Biden and Clinton have more experience in foreign policy, and he will listen to them. One thing he showed during the campaign is that he surrounds himself with smart people, and he is continuing to do so as president.

I always thought that Biden alone was enough reason to vote for Obama vs. McCain. Clinton as SOS is icing on the cake.

I couldn’t give a rats ass about his opinion on abortion. Last I checked he didn’t have a vagina, so he isn’t qualified to have an opinion.

I don’t either, but it’s interesting to note his priorities for secretary of state.

This was so impressive. Hillary and everyone looked great. I am so happy to see all of them working together and the emphasis on beefing up the State Dept.

Kudos to Secretary Clinton for thanking the families of State employees for their sacrifices which are very real. The spouses work miracles in Third World countries making their homes comfortable and welcoming for their families and coworkers and locals. The foreign nationals who work at our “outposts” around the world are also deserving of Secretary Clinton’s and our thanks.

I am so proud of the Clinton family and so many other public servants on this great day.

We do not torture! Music to my ears on this 22nd day of January in the year 2009 after years of hearing it as a downright lie.

Betsy, I have to say, to my last breath, I think Hillary thinks Obama is a buffoon.

However, she made her peace. She’s a politician.

But I can almost guarantee you that every media event will be underscored by her saying, “the Obama-Biden” administration.

    She will execute his policy.

She will endorse it fully when she truly agrees.

And she’s not at all impressed by him.

    Neither am I.

  19. Daryl24 23 January 2009 at 7:25 am #

I think Hillary thinks Obama is a buffoon.

Based on what? She mentored him in the Senate so she knows that’s not anywhere close to being true.

And if she does think he’s a buffoon what does her accepting the job from a buffoon say about her?

Hillary knows Obama is a sharp guy. Very sharp. End of story.

  20. AnninCA 23 January 2009 at 2:12 pm #

    Just my opinion, Daryl.

    I just think she knows.

    He’s unprepared.
