This seems so fitting for her, especially for anyone who remembers her speech when she was first lady. It was a speech that shook the world, all because Hillary Clinton dared to say “women’s rights are human rights.”
Climate is to be a top priority on Secretary Clinton’s first trip, with Japan being the first stop on her Asia trip where economic turmoil will be on the agenda.
From Andrew Revkin of the NY Times on China’s energy focus that includes tackling emissions and greenhouse gases:
As I wrote the other day, it looks like countries are going to remain focused on addressing real-time problems related to energy security (most notably high oil prices) for the time being, even as evidence builds that global warming could fuel turmoil, particularly in already-troubled places like sub-Saharan Africa, in the long run. I ran a panel at a meeting on China, energy, and climate at the Council on Foreign Relations on Tuesday, and in the preceding session, Zhou Dadi, one of the leading figures shaping China’s energy and climate policies said energy security will remain China’s top priority for a long while to come. He restated the longstanding mantra from China on climate, saying the responsibility for blunting emissions curves for greenhouse gases will remain with industrialized powers for a long time to come.

*blink*
Honestly, I see Hillary’s actions so far as preparation for another run at the presidency. Talk about staying away from the fray.
It’s like watching someone watch the boat sink.
I’m not ready to yet say, “That’s the obvious strategy,” but I’m darn close.

This is a joke, right? Things are terrible in this country right now, and if Obama is unsuccessful no other Democrat will win. We will end up with something we will not want as president.
Funny, I would think with the intricate linkage between the American and Chinese economies, and with 26 million Chinese thrown out of work I’d say discussions with China would qualify as being deeply involved in the issue.
But hey, that’s just me. also.

AnninCA – I don’t know where you get your information from but I think you need a reality check. I am a New Yorker and I can tell you this – Hillary Clinton is not setting herself up for another run for the WH in 2012. For you to say this is what she is planning demeans and diminishes the person that Hillary is. Hillary is a Democrat. She made a run for the nomination for POTUS. She lost because of many mistakes by her campaign. My husband and I worked hard for her campaign. She was the first politician that my “political animal” husband actually worked for in the field and the one thing we learned from Hillary is that as disappointed as she was she is first and foremost an American who loves this country and the American people. She is not some shallow opportunistic politician who is planning to undercut our President for her own political ambitions. If she were to do that it would be the demise of the Democratic Party and that’s the last thing she wants. When she ran for Senator of NYS she promised she would not run for President during her first term – a promise she kept. Your statement is not only irresponsible it’s dishonorable and so far from the truth that I would laugh if it wasn’t so “out in left field.”

Why get worked up about it? It was just another typical “drive by shooting” post.
Thank you JA. I honestly don’t know where you (AnninCA) get some of your remarks. They are so far out in left field it isn’t even funny.
There are some bumps in the road in this administration but that’s with any administration when they first get to DC. Stop trying to say that Obama is a loser, that’s the way you come across. And personally I’m getting very frustrated with your posts and the fact that they are always so negative.

justlen – normally I wouldn’t but these are the kinds of statements that ruin a person’s reputation and are carried on by other like-minded people and allows the pundits to destroy a person. I just can’t let that go by without shooting back. I’m an old woman and have nothing to lose.

Bets – the bumps in the road aren’t any more unusual than any other administration coming in. Obama has been POTUS for less than 3 weeks and everyone is acting like he’s a loser. I, too, get frustrated at times but I don’t see him as a loser. The Repubs are going to come across as looking like the jerks they have always been.
I’m right with you JA.

I’m not so sure. I find them so blindingly uninformed that I think the only motivation for them could be a burning hated for Obama and the hope that he fails.
They simply make me laugh.
I believe she once said she loved riling people on the Huffpo blog. So I’m assuming she likes to do it here too. And then she leaves.
They’re typically not even cogent arguments.
AnninCA voted for McCain/Palin. That says it all.
I know.
Obama is getting ready to leave and sell the stimulus to Americans across the country.

McCain amendment in my book is so ridiculous. I guess he wants to pretend that he didn’t lose.

Wanting Obama to fail makes no sense at all. If he fails, we fail and our country fails. So where is the sense in that? Do people like AnninCA and Rush Limbaugh understand that failure is not an option at this time for this country? It’s so illogical.

He’s trying to look relevant and knowledgeable. This is the same man who said he didn’t understand the financial aspects.
They are voting on the McCain amendment now. It should go down in defeat just like his run for President.
She’ll be back with the latest idiotic talking point, that Obama not wearing a suitcoat in the oval office demeans the Presidency.
It might not be worth arguing with someone who could profess to be a huge admirer/supporter of Hillary Clinton, and then claim to have voted for McCain. And is also an admirer of Palin and JTP.

I read you response to AnninCA after the fact but you are so right on. “Clinton Derangement Syndrome” has more than one permutation, Ann thinks Hillary Clinton is on board with Rush Limbaugh in hoping Obama fails? … amazing.

Rush took the week off so they’re recycling last weeks talking points.
Maybe we should just ignore her.
New thread
The McCain amendment voting is going right down party lines. Same old gas.
I agree with the others who say it is waaaayyy too early to judge the Obama presidency. Let’s wait until at least the mid terms in 2010. I would expect that his presidency could be very successful. He is smart, measured and not easily thrown off course.
I also agree that the sole thing that Hillary is focused on is being the best SOS she can be – and I believe she will be outstanding.
