It is a bit of a slow news day today being President’s Day, which I had totally forgot about until I tried to go to the bank this morning. C-Span did a survey ranking the Presidents for the occassion. Lincoln was named as the top President and Buchanan as the worst. George W. Bush, came pretty close to Buchanan ranking 36th out of the 42.
It will be interesting to see a few years down the road where President Obama ranks in a similar survey. The WaPo reported a few days ago that Obama had scored an early victory of “historic proportions” when it came to the stimulus package. And, that said Obama still has a “sky-high” approval rating in the polls despite the obstructionist Republicans and their chatter.
If you haven’t read “Former Gitmo Guard Tells All,” in Harper’s, it is an absolute must read. There’s some doubt being raised about how far Obama will allow Bush probes to go. Screw the “moving forward” restraint routine. Americans have a right to the truth about Bush’s secrets.
Secretary Clinton took questions from the press while en route to Japan, the transcript is here. And you can check in at DipNote to read HRC’s first blog post on her trip.

The DipNote blog is great. You can even submit a question for Hillary to answer while she is on her trip.
In a similar survey – when it came to the subject of ‘international affairs’ – GW was rated ahead of exactly ONE former president –
and that was the guy who died after his inauguration speech (pneumonia)
I also found it interesting, on ‘The View’ they were noting how much and how quickly our presidents ‘age’ while in office. Obama’s aging – after simply a one year ‘campaign’ was a little surprising. More interesting – I was also shocked the gals didn’t comment as to how LITTLE George W Bush seemed to have aged, considering he was there for eight years. I have a simple explanation for that however.
George W. Bush — didn’t give a shit.
Bush spent all his time either on vacation or bicycling or sleeping.
Whoopi on with O’Reilly tonight !

It was a treat to see that HRC had a post up at DipNote. I hope we see more of that.
Everybody should make sure to watch the Alexandra Pelosi documentary tonight on HBO.

Me, too, Pamela. I like to see her own words and thoughts about this trip to Asia.
Hey y’ all.
I unplugged from the news and worked on my online Family Tree for 10 hours! Guess what? the world’s still turning. It makes a difference having our foreign policy in good hands with Hillary and Obama being a hands on Prez. The best laugh of the day is Cantor trying to spin the stimulus bill as a Republican victory.. good one Eric.

the world will continue to turn, GeoT, –
long after man rises to his technological pinnacle –
and sweeps himself from the universe.

Great pics – thanks for the link.
HuffPost had a funny take on the descriptions of the photos. Especially this one, which makes the Repubs look like hypocrites:
Jan. 27, 2009: House Republicans surround the President after the meeting. Many of them were seeking his autograph. Every House Republican eventually voted against the bill.
Yesterday, the new U.S. President played basketball and then watched the NBA all-star game with a friend. He’s been enjoying a vacation in Chicago, seemingly unconcerned that we are in the midst of a financial crisis the like of which we haven’t seen since the 1930s.
As always today Hillary Clinton is not vacationing, nor taking time off. Hillary is hard at work Saving The World.
When the world needs help, when the world sends a call for help like a mythical Batsignal in the night, that S.O.S. morse code message is answered by S.O.S. herself – Hillary Clinton.

My gawd. You sound like such a right-winger who apparently doesn’t think Obama should be allowed to even sleep.
I respectfully remind you, Hillary’s family is ‘grown’. Also – even GOD rested on the 7th day – and I truly hope Obama gets his rest – his family time – and may be even a little (gasp) sex from Michelle now and then.
Those who think otherwise are living in a weird dream-world.
I’m sorry, but Having seen this now more than once, I’m beginning to find it more and more ‘funny’ —
“Oh my God! Look what he’s DOING! He’s “playing basketball!” — while the World Burns !!!!”
If it wasn’t so STUPID, it would be even funnier. *L
I WANT Hillary’s trench coat.
Awesome !!!
I have no interest in this tour of Hillary’s. I’m glad she’s doing OK with it.
But she’s so far off the radar, I simply don’t understand a thing about the job at this point.
Disappointing beyond belief.

As North Korea threatens more long range missile tests ?
As we sell our country more and more to China ?
As Japan goes into an economic dumpster even worse than ours ?
Geez, Ann.
What planet are you on?
Guess you’re caught on the Grapevine in the snow.
You seem distinctly out of touch.
What exactly is ON the radar for you, Ann ?
Karl Rove talking to Sean Hannity ?
I guess I prefer Hillary actually trying to get something done in this world – as opposed to people who just sit around and bitch.

this is one of those parallel universe phenomenon right? Except these are not parallel but more like something from Superman’s “Bizarro world”…

Okay – I gotta go for the evening as I have a long (computer network crash) day ahead of me tomorrow – - but before I run, even though traffic is slow tonight, (see:

Those of you who haven’t seen the DVD series, ‘John Adams’ – I would VERY much recommend it. I adore the way it slightly portrays one of my heroes, Thomas Jefferson (a deist) but perhaps the most interesting contradiction is that John Adams was indeed the best example of a Founding Father who was actually a ‘Christian’ (the right-wing will try to tell you they ALL were, which is of course, nonsense – even the original GW himself didn’t care much for the ‘church’ if you simply read his diary). Yet, when you read John Adam’s quotations or listen to this series, you’ll discover he didn’t like the two-party system – nor being identified as a ‘Federalist’ who thought the government had enormous responsibilities. This ‘Christian’ man and leader didn’t care at all for the ‘Republicans’ who thought every man should fend for himself.
Look into it – for the next time you get into an argument about our Founding Fathers.
