Spring in Washington

The second picture above is part of the F.D.R. memorial along the tidal basin in D.C. It’s spectacular, with fountains and chiseled F.D.R. quotes, plus statues of both the president and Eleanor.

It really was a splendid walk, seeing these gorgeous trees that date back to 1912; 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo. The photos above were taken on April 1, which was the peak blooming moment in this year’s Cherry Blossom season.

What’s catching your eye this Saturday? Any interesting news happening in the global village?

That’s the first time I’ve seen the FDR Memorial!! I REALLY need to make a trip to the Capitol, been many, many, MANY years. Well, except for the Pro-reproductive rights march back in the 80s that is.

    “puuuuurrrrrdy”

Astute, and up to your usual standards.

I was just perusing the archived thread where you took it upon yourself to make me the target of your loud braying.

I note, in an attempt to demean my opinions, and place me in the category of some sort of “conspiracy theorist”, you have singled out a mention I made, and a story I linked to, about the five Israeli Mossad agents that were detained on 9/11, and subsequently deported back to Israel. You make the comment “cuckoo clock” when referring to it, and you insinuate that that I am accusing the Israelis of caqrrying out the WTC attacks.

I cannot help but wonder, are you really this uninformed and ignorant that you have to create straw arguments to buttress your ad hominem attacks against people that have taken the time, and expended the efgfrort, to inform themselves beyond a shallow Fox News or MSNBC klevel of input?

  6. Scott Hopkins 04 April 2009 at 11:25 am #

I love DC and hope to visit again soon. I remember being impressed with the FDR memorial…not as well known as some of the other sites but definitely worth walking through.

  7. PissedOffAmerican 04 April 2009 at 11:26 am #

Now, heres the deal, GEO. I challenge you to dispute the story of the “five dancing Israelis”, and point out ANY falsehoods or accusations I have leveled against Israel in regards to the WTC attacks. The detention and expulsion of these five Israelis is a matter of historical record. Their actions certainly te4legraph, at the very least, a pre-knowledge of the 9/11 attaqcks, and there are many other solid bits of evidence pointing to the FACT that Israeli intelligence was closely monitoring the movements an activities of the 9/11 hi-jackers.

Short of fulfilling my above request, you will demonstrate to this online “community” that you don’t know WTF you are talking about. So have at it, lets see what ya’ got. Be forewarned, I’ll rub your face in it.

  8. Betsy 04 April 2009 at 11:42 am #

POA you really DO act like a POA. Get over it. No one is denying what you have posted at all. And just remember one thing; maybe some of us believe that your conspiracy theory is off the wall. And no, I haven’t researched what you’ve said, so don’t challenge me. It just seems that YOU may have it out for the Israelis. Are you a Palestinian, or an Arab? I personally don’t like what Israel is doing to Palestine either, but that certainly doesn’t mean I’m opposed to Israel.
And if my memory serves me correctly (I’m a very senior citizen), didn’t we nab an Israeli intelligence officer here that had been spying on us?

  9. Betsy 04 April 2009 at 11:44 am #

Or I guess I should say an Israeli Spy. :-)

Taylor, the pictures are beautiful. And I’m ashamed to say that of all the travels I have never been to DC. I keep suggesting to my husband that we need to swing south on our way home from MA this summer and go to DC, and of course to VA to see my sister.

  10. djjl 04 April 2009 at 11:49 am #

    Betsy,

Fortunately for me, my husband has family in the DC area and we have the opportunity to visit. You need to get a hold of that steering wheel and get there. It is every bit worth a detour.

  11. Betsy 04 April 2009 at 11:59 am #

You are right djjl. He usually just wants to get home so we head right down the middle of the US (so to speak). One time we went to Philly across to NJ and on to Yorktown, VA to see my sister on our way home. It was a different route and I loved it. Didn’t get bored at all either.

    Betsy,

I’m having fun finishing these wedding details with my daughter:

Here’s where the wedding reception will be:

We’ll have the baptism for our new grandson the next day.

Yes I have been. Quite unseemly. But just think, this is what the “have’s” have been doing for a long, long time.

djjl, I’m waiting for the plugin to download so I can view the Cathedral.

  16. djjl 04 April 2009 at 1:12 pm #

    Betsy,
I’m really having fun. You may recall, I never was able to assist with Jennifer’s (the eldest)plans (couldn’t even attend the Brides Maids’ luncheon) due to health issues at the time. I had no idea how much I reall missed – and no idea how much work she had to do on her own while out of state. I guess it was good that I was oblivious at the time.

I’ll be making up for it though. She and Patrick are going to build a home on a lake near here and I’m responsible for overseeing construction. (22 years in real estate will come in hand particularly since I specialized in new construction).

    http://www.3chimre.com/images/graphics/greers_ferry_lake_view_fog.jpg

My world is looking so, so good. Now, if we just knew what the new grandson’s name is going to be. They are still discussing it.

  17. djjl 04 April 2009 at 1:13 pm #

    Thanks Ice.

    I’ll do that. :-)

You’ve prodded me out of my daydreaming;-)

  18. Betsy 04 April 2009 at 2:09 pm #

djjl, this must be so thrilling for you. :-) I’m a little envious because I only have the one daughter and she seems to be more interested in her job then getting married. *sigh* But I accept that because I love her and am very proud of her accomplishments.

  19. djjl 04 April 2009 at 2:12 pm #

It really is. She’s a really good girl and such a hard worker. I am so happy for her.

That’s really wonderful. And the picture of where they will build their house is just gorgeous. We have a friend who just built a house on a lake in Arkansas. They lived in Dallas and were retired.

  30. djjl 04 April 2009 at 5:46 pm #

Tyler, Texas boohall! Tyler, Timpson, Bobo and Blair.

My favorite stories are about Earl Campbell – the Tyler Rose -http://www.baptiststandard.com/2001/3_5/pages/campbell_earl.html

Erin will be 26 on 7/20/2009 – 2 days after her wedding.

When I first suggested the library, I was fairly certain they would not like it. Wrong – they both loved it. One of the reasons I thought it was particularly cool from her perspective is that she worked as a volunteer for the Clinton Campaign at the National Headquarters in Little Rock in 1992. Of course she did that on her days off from her Catholic elementary school. She never forgot the astonished faces of a touring group of school children who came through and saw her working there.

Hey, I started my girls out early. Erin was 8 years old her sister, Jennifer (expecting the baby boy in Kuwait 4/16/2009) had just turned 15. Boy, did they think they had done something REALLy BIG. And they had…..every little bit counts.

Jennifer was at the Old State House with a friend when Bill accepted his win as President in 1992 :

They were both there in 1996:

Erin wants to have her bridal portrait taken there:

It’s too nice a day in our nation’s capitol for anything weighty. So I’ll just thank TM for her choice of music from last night. “Something Else” is one of my favorite albums. And Cannonball’s rendition of “Autumn Leaves” is surpassed only by Eva Cassidy’s.

Oh, sticking to the music angle, I’m watching Stevie Wonder’s 2008 concert in London “Live at Last,” and it’s wonderful to see people of all backgrounds, races and age brackets grooving to his music.

Now, perhaps tomorrow, we can discuss the implications of the move away from the dollar as a global unit of trade. Oh yeah, it’s happening. Either France eventually gets its wish for a global regulator, or China gets its wish for a global currency. “Special Drawing Rights,” anyone?

That is one of the reasons I believe Limbaugh, Beck and their malignant ilk are so harmful to this country. There are people who believe in the filth and dishonesty they spew.

Can you IMAGINE the squeals and cries for the prosicution of anyone who voiced the filth these repugs do had it been aimed at the torturer in chief? Homeland security and the Secret Service would have renditioned their asses in a SECOND!
It would be nice if someone like Morris Dees(spelling?) the guy who broke the financial back of the Klan would investigate and if this pinhead listened to that bag of puss Beck prosicute him for every dime he has.

“when you called me an asshole on this blog you forfeited any right to further discussion with me”

You really are a hypocritical ignorant little schmuck, aren’t you?

I’ll ask you again, you little pissant, exactly WHAT makes the very REAL detention of five Israeli Mossad agents filming the 9/11 attacks a “conspiracy theory”? Its historical record. What exactly are you refuting when you blather some asinine nonsense about “cuckoo clock”?? Listen, if you don’t want to be treated like an ignorant uninformed buffoon, than I suggest you don’t act like one.

Betsy. Its your kind of indifference to the truth that greased the ways for George Bush and Dick Cheney to go as far as they did into the rule of tyranny. And that indifference is also lubricating Obama’s ability to retain the excesses of Executive power that Bush/Cheney ceded to themselves. As alarming as Bush’s excesses were, its equally as alarming that Obama is not acting to roll back those powers.

“I think you reserve impeachment for grave, grave breaches, and intentional breaches of the president’s authority” Obama, 2007.

So, if George Bush and Dick Cheney did not commit “grave and intentional breaches of the president’s authority”, then does Obama feel that he can exercise the same criminal actions without fear of being held accountable or being impeached? And when did impeachment become a “choice” when the checks and balances are confronted with blatant criminal acts committed by the President and his Administration? Is there really any doubt that President Bush acted against the Constitution and the rule of law? Is not Obama sworn to protect the Constitution? And what right did Pelosi have to “take impeachment off the table”?

  39. djjl 04 April 2009 at 10:11 pm #

    POA
I don’t know quite where you are coming from – but GeoT (with whom I frequently disagree ) is not an ignorant schmuck. My guess is your aren’t either.

I think evryone should take a deep breath and consider that other posters HERE most often have the best of intent. Every once in a while knees start jerking – I’ve got the black and blue marks to prove it – but, most posters here want the right things done in the right way.
No, not vengeance – just justice.

Take a deep breath – hold that breath – hold that breath – —-breathe.

“Commentary: Obama has best day as president

(CNN) — If a statesman is one who looks to the next generation and a politician one who looks to the next election, a political consultant must be one who looks to the next tracking poll. Well, I’ll go one better and just look at today — April 2, 2009.

This has most likely been President Obama’s best single day since
    inauguration.”

  42. Betsy 04 April 2009 at 10:18 pm #

You are really self righteous aren’t you POA. I am not indifferent at all. But when you come on this blog and start attacking people and calling names, I take grave offense to it. If you want to debate intelligently that’s fine. But all you do is spew anger at everyone including Obama. He hasn’t even been in office for 3 months and you seem to think he should right away take action.

And for your information you little “pip squeak” I agree that Bush and Cheney should be investigated thoroughly. I for one am not sure that they aren’t. Remember, the repubs are trying to stop the JD from hiring the attorney that wants to investigate them.

So don’t think you can come in here and make accusations.
I’m probably old enough to be your grandmother. And I say that because of the language that you use.

  43. Betsy 04 April 2009 at 10:27 pm #

  44. Betsy 04 April 2009 at 10:29 pm #

  45. PissedOffAmerican 05 April 2009 at 12:32 am #

    Betsy, get a clue.

Go read the thread that this blithering dolt Geo made such an ass of himself on. If he, or it, or she, or whatever, wants to spew some crap about “conspiracy theories”, and call some “cuckoo”, and atribute assertions to that person that were never in fact made, then it/she/he should expect to be singled out, called out, aqnd taken to task. It seems you folks here are a bit selective in your indignations. And I could care less how old you are in respect to this conversation. Its irrelevant, and useless information. I see a pattern here of partisan stupidity. In fact, the place reeks of it. Just like trhe right did with George Bush, you fawning Obama adorers are going to keep saying “just wait till tomorrow” while ignoring whats right in front of your faces. And when you finally wake up and realize you’ve recieved no representation, and your “leader” has committed egregious abuses of power, some other snake oil salesman will be placating you with statements like “lets not look back”. This business of “party” is a wedge, a tool, designed to keep the riff raff bickering while these world class criminals in Washington act hand in hand to give us all a world class screwing.

And don’t cut these jackasses like Geo so much slack. If they say something, make them back it up with something other than inanities and vaque insinuation. Hes a dolt, and you are simply enabling him.
