Retired Army Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba denied reports that he has seen the prisoner-abuse photos that President Obama is fighting to keep secret, in an exclusive interview with Salon Friday night.
When the Telegraph first reported their story I didn’t post on it.
Now it turns out that when the Telegraph quoted Taguba, as he reportedly told Benjamin late last night, he was referring to photos he’s seen. Taguba hasn’t seen the latest photos in the lawsuit that Obama is suppressing.
It’s why I used caveats on the story yesterday, even if something had clearly shifted. Something wasn’t adding up, as Koppelman and Horton’s back and forth reveals.
It’s quite possible that the torture photo stories have been confused and combined during reporting, which Taguba’s denial to Salon seems to make even more likely.
One thread is constant. Taguba stands by Obama reversing his decision, that the photos should not be released.
The situation has been compounded, partially because of Obama’s reversal, made worse when journalists are hunting a torture tale where transparency is being withheld.
