Sarah Palin Quote of the Week

updated

At least, so far, and it’s not from Palin, but about her and the devoted fans who now number one million on Facebook. It came from Norah O’Donnell this morning, and nothing has crystallized the sentiments of Sarah Palin fans more succinctly.

“This is a line that stretches all the way back… another 1,000 people to see Sarah… It’s 9:00 o’clock in the morning and she’s not here until 6:00 pm tonight…. [...] You know what it is? It’s a connection. … Palin says she’s treated unfairly, treated unfairly by the media, by Newsweek magazine …and the people in middle America feel treated.. unfairly.” – Norah O’Donnell, MSNBC

As I said in my Palin post over at Huffington Post, for all you fact checking fanatics, the people behind Sarah don’t care, aren’t listening, and don’t trust the criticism coming her way. They relate to her.

Someone tell Sullivan, because he’s gone “silent”“for only the second time in its nearly ten-year history,” while still mesmerized by “specifically her fantastic story of her fifth pregnancy.” He’d better find something this time or the descriptions he saves for Sarah will fit him to a tee.

The DNC is on a hair Palin trigger, it seems, and sent out a Palin memo in advance of her hitting the battleground state. Ben Smith has it and here are some highlights, or lowlights, depending on your point of view, especially considering the title, which is wishful thinking on the DNC’s part. They should have listened to Norah O’Donnell, because they’re pulling a Newsweek, not on the sexist front, but on pillorying her, which just draws her fans even closer.

The recession of the early 1980s did not have a financial meltdown. Unemployment peaked at 10.8 percent, worse than the October 2009 high of 10.2 percent, but the jobless rate is still expected to climb.” [Associated Press, 11/13/09]

AS PALIN’S CREDIBILITY CONTINUES TO PLUMMET THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SEE PALIN UNFAVORABLY AND DO NOT THINK SHE IS QUALIFIED:

ABC/WaPo Poll: 52 % See Palin Unfavorable, 60 % Say Palin Isn’t Qualified To Be President, And 53% Say They Definitely Would Not Vote For Her In 2012. …

CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Survey: 70% Of Americans, 44% Of Republicans, And 68% Of Independents Do Not Believe Sarah Palin Is Qualified To Be President. …

As one commenter over at Huffington Post said: I disagree with Sarah Palin on every level and would have been perfectly delighted to be able to avoid her on the tube this week. … Jon Meacham is an historian and his protests are disingenuous. … The Newsweek cover was not only in poor taste and sexist; it gave Palin an opportunity to blast women’s treatment she otherwise would not have had. Women like me were forced to acknowledge she had a point. I could have lived without that, so Jon, thanks for nothing.

Sarah Palin served up a long slow lob through her Runner’s World photo shoot, and Jon Meacham whiffed it by a mile, with the DNC jumping all over Palin, who isn’t a candidate for anything at this point.

Talk about preemption.

UPDATE: Via HuffPost reader JoeF, Runners World says it has a one-year “embargo” on that cover photo that got Newsweek in such trouble. So, not only is Jon Meacham the dumbest man on the planet, but he’s incompetent too. That is, if Runners World is correct, which since they’re blasting this on their web pages seems likely.

EDITOR’S NOTE: On the cover of this week’s issue of Newsweek is a photo that was shot exclusively for the August 2009 issue of Runner’s World, in which Sarah Palin was featured on the monthly “I’m a Runner” back page. The photos from that shoot are still under a one-year embargo, and Runner’s World did not provide Newsweek with its cover image. It was provided to Newsweek by the photographer’s stock agency, without Runner’s World’s knowledge or permission. – Runner’s World (h/t via email from HuffPost reader JoeF)
