That Smell

updated

“My guess is that musty folders on reconciliation got dusted off this morning…”Podesta prediction: Senate Dems pass health bill

Through anonymous sources, it’s being reported that Pres. Obama wants to simply get health care over with and get it voted on. So, he’s pushing Sen. Reid to make a deal with Joe Lieberman.

Matthew Yglesias offers his own rhetorical bromide for whatever Democratic ill ails you:

… So it’s also worth sparing a few words for the potentially demoralized voters who are considering staying home. To wit: Grow up. Nobody ever accomplished anything in politics by not participating. Going to vote on Election Day is not a monumental demand on your time, and there is not a single problem in American public policy that will be made easier to solve if liberal stay home on Election Day. …

After all, there have already been so many problems solved since Americans handed Pres. Obama and the Democratic Party their majority. Ri-iight.

None of these developments surprises.

Insert denial here.

UPDATE: Greg Sargent finds the video that blows Joe out of the water, via YouTube; illustrating that Joe was for a Medicare buy-in before he was against it. In his own words, no less.

As much as I like President Obama, I have to tell him that I will go to the polls in 2010 and 2012 but I will only vote for dog catcher.

Well if Jonathon Tasini runs against Ms Gillibrand I will voe for him in the primary. If he wins the primary I will vote for him in the general election.

I will abstain from voting for Mr Schumer, who appears no liberal, who has not lifted a finger in many years to fix the medicare prescription drug benefit by moving the benefit to part B where it should have gone in the first place.

I will abstain from voting for representative. I will also abstain from voting for President in 2012.

Unless I see a fix to the prescription drug benefit as described at http://bit.ly/drug_benefit and enactment of a strong public option as described at http://bit.ly/public_option

We have to destroy the conservative coalition’s power in congress. Go here http://www.democratz.org to do that.

    That’s what Gandhi would do.

I’ve talked a bit with Jonathon Tasini, democratz. He’s a very passionate fellow who is working very hard to win, though it’s up hill.

You know, Marie205, Joe’s grandstanding looks like a job interview for his next job, ins. co. lobbyist.

    ps-For your amusement:

Taylor, Joe LIE-berman is so aiming for a future as a Insurance company Lobbyist. I have never been a big believer in Karma but now I believe in it when ever I look at this man. I really hope he pays dearly for his greed to fellow Americans. As for Reid, I think the man is to weak willed and wish-washy for my taste. Dems need to clean house come Mid term election keeping these bozos in office just because they have a D in front their names is not enough.
On a final note, I have given up on President Obama to take the lead on any Democratic principles. He has a wait and see approach that at times works great but often goes horrible wrong. Obama is the complete of opposite of Bush in temperament in the extreme. It seems the American people went from “Bully” Bush to “Everyone’s Best friend” Obama. Wake me up when this nightmare is over folks…lol

I guess the Finance committee bill is the one The President wanted all along. If i were Harry Reid I’d tell Obama to make the deal with Joe himself.

As for “growing up” I think there are a lot of Democrats who have come to the conclusion that Republican-lite just isn’t worth the effort, and who listens to Matt anymore anyway?

  6. Taylor Marsh 14 December 2009 at 3:53 pm #

Hey GABuck, the thing that’s so laughable is that we got Stupak-Pitts under Pelosi and a Democratic majority. So the advice really is desperately elitist.

  7. GaBuck 14 December 2009 at 3:59 pm #

And I thought Stupak-Pitts was a deliberate attempt to kill the bill anyway, so you can see how cynical I am about the process.

  8. Taylor Marsh 14 December 2009 at 4:08 pm #

Who can blame anyone for being cynical at this point? The way Dems are using their majority, I don’t expect anyone to vote in 2010, as things stand today.

  9. GaBuck 14 December 2009 at 4:27 pm #

Well it does seem as if the throw up all of these roadblocks WITHIN THE PARTY and somehow try to blame Republicans for being obstructionist when They’re not even necessary to pass legislation. Stupak? I mean, who counts votes for the speaker? Did she not know this in advance? If she didn’t, is that supposed to make me feel better?

And Lieberman? Really? Does it not look like he’s the one carrying water for the white house?

  10. GaBuck 14 December 2009 at 4:39 pm #

And I don’t want to fight the primary wars again, really, but it was Matt and his ilk that projected all their progressive desires on an untried, untested centrist. Why does he expect us to own his failure?

Yglesias lost my readership a long time ago. This is one Democrat (barely holding) who intends to vote for true liberals period.

I think Libermann needs a loud public shaming. Firedoglake is calling out his wife…high time. Even the villege admits that this is about screwing liberals. I find it unbelievable that he would continue to keep people in health care danger to settle scores. He is a dispecable human being to quote Daffy Duck and Matt Yglesias needs to spend a long time looking in the mirror.

  12. Imhotep 14 December 2009 at 7:47 pm #

Isn’t it time to tell our Democratic(???) representatives to vote against any and all Health Care Bills? Screw Obama and his legacy. It is interseting to note that in the Houston runoff elect only 16% of the eligible voters turned out to vote. The voter turnout in Virginia and New Jersey was also very low. Could it be that the voters are trying to tell the politicians that they are very dissatisfied with the system? “What if they held a war and nobody came?” Peace

Here is a petition to punish Joe Libermann.

  15. www.democratz.org 14 December 2009 at 10:40 pm #

Sorry those bold progressives don’t look very bold to me. Jane Hamsher going after the money from the Republican organization race for the cure and having the stars not raising money for Hadassah appears something I would advocate.

Although this petition does it for me http://bit.ly/public_option

I have a name for a traitor Jew. I call them Dathan, the Jew who in Egypt, who took over as Master Builder when Joshua killed the former Master Builder Baka. Moses did not know he was a Jew but Dathan did.

Taylor, thanks for all you do! I’ve reading you since the Dem primaries and your mostly spot on.I voted for Obama after being a huge Hillary supporter,no other choice.I so disillusioned.I doubt now i will vote.In 2012 if things don’t change I leave the top of the ticket unchecked.

Hey Tonyb39, I appreciate that very much. You’ve got a lot of company.
