It comes from the Republican gaffe machine, Rep. Peter King, proving yet again that my plea to disband and defund the Homeland Security apparatus is a good one. Via Ben Smith:
“I think one main thing would be to — just himself to use the word terrorism more often,” said King, the ranking Republican on the Homeland Security Committee.
Ah yes, because declaring “war on terror,” and invoking 9/11, which Bush-Cheney, et al. did with great regularity, was so effective.
And in case you’re wondering, Sarah Palin blamed the whole thing on Bill yesterday.
President Obama’s meeting with his top national security advisers does nothing to change the fact that his fundamental approach to terrorism is fatally flawed. We are at war with radical Islamic extremists and treating this threat as a law enforcement issue is dangerous for our nation’s security. That’s what happened in the 1990s and we saw the result on September 11, 2001. This is a war on terror not an “overseas contingency operation.” Acts of terrorism are just that, not “man caused disasters.” The system did not work. Abdulmutallab was a child of privilege radicalized and trained by organized jihadists, not an “isolated extremist” who traveled to a land of “crushing poverty.” He is an enemy of the United States, not just another criminal defendant. – Sarah Palin, Facebook
For Republicans, it’s like George W. Bush and Dick Cheney never existed. They wish.

Peter King, an alleged fundraiser for terrorists has no business holding office in the house of representatives much less holding the ranking member seat on the homeland security committee in the house of representatives.
Someone ought to send the next Republiclown party member who boasts of his party’s superiority on terrorsm and national security one of these

Tweetie just did a great job of taking the Cheney position apart. He had on that dork black guy who was a Cheney staffer, I can’t think of his name. He is like a neocon robot, always spotting talking points. Anyway Matthews nailed evey one of them.
Ron Christie. The only thing Matthews does well is attack Cheney.
Here’s Christie’s op-ed in The Hill today. As for “amateur hour” being over, it was the day Bush-Cheney left office.
http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/homeland-security/74551-amateur-hour-is-over
Ron Christie surely can’t REALLY believe all the ridiculous things he says on behalf of the Cheney wing of the Republican Party. It is just unthinkable that a reasonably intelligent person could.
OK I get it now… According to Rep King all Obama has to do is use the word terrorism once a day, and al-Qaeda will fold like a house of cards. Silly me, I didn’t know it was that easy to beat those terrorists.
My favorite thing about the President so far is the way he is handling this whole terrorism thing.I think Cheney should be charged with something.Endangering the country by trying to make our President look weakor breaking the code of ex executive office holders or something. al Qaeda is listening.
Hi LL — What do you like about how he’s handling the terror thing? I haven’t thought much of his performance there either, but have not paid much attention over the last few days…

Re: “He is an enemy of the United States, not just another criminal defendant.”
Baloney. He’s a criminal defendant. When Richard Reid the shoe bomber proclaimed he was a soldier of Allah under the command of Osama Bin Laden, Judge Young declared: “You are not an enemy combatant, you are a terrorist’ … You are not a soldier in any army, you are a terrorist. To call you a soldier gives you far too much stature.”
Re: “use the word terrorism more often”
Sure, scare the American people some more. That’s what terror is meant to do — scare people, and who better to scare us than our Representatives. There’s a lot of money in that racket.
Actually, terrorism as a threat to Americans is not even on the screen statistically. Nearly a hundred Americans die on the highways and by their own hands every single day, and probably as many die due to lousy medical care, and yet we’re supposed to be scared of a “threat” which is less lethal to the average American than bathtub slips (almost one per day) and lightning strikes (about one a week).
If the US government were ever to be capable of even a mediocre effort in intelligence and policing, terrorism would be even less of a factor than it already is, which is minor. These geniuses should just do their jobs rather than harass us with their puerile jabber. Trying to get us to wet our pants in fright is the real terrorism at work here.
Ah, the Motherland. We must defend the Motherland at all costs. (Pssst…that’ll never fly.) Ah, the Homeland. We must defend the Homeland at all costs. Now go and gather up the army and send 100,000 of them here and 100,000 of them there. When we run out of the troopers, arm the drones and fire the missiles over here and then over there. If the treasury runs low just print some more paper and borrow the rest. And all so the Republicans and the neocon, warmongering Democrats don’t call me weak on defense. Go Obama. Go to your doom. Peace
Peter King is a horse’s ass. It’s just too damned bad that we have to waste our time and good bandwidth reacting and responding to the nonsense these Republican idiots spew. Thing is I partly blame Obama for all this.
Why? Because in the beginning, any “gifted” politician, would have known the true nature of the Republicans. He should have known that these people are truly evil and that they would never cooperate with him under any circumstances. He would have known that they would rather destroy themselves than work with him. He was too naive to understand this and to take advantage of it. To this day, he still hopes he could work with those people no matter how harshly they treat him, or double cross him. But, he would also have understood power, and how to wield it. I am not sure he really does.
The Republicans were initially afraid and on the run. He could have destroyed them once and for all. He could have done what Karl Rove dreamed of doing — a permanent progressive majority. Instead, he had this naive idea of bi-partisanship.
He brought them back to life.
So now we have to listen to Peter King and his BS.

Why so unkind to horses? King is an ass – no need to label some other species as being responsible for his brand of buffoonery.
Hey secular – can I find your site again? My husband and I just returned from your general area – Lock Haven Pa.
Ron Christie is a mirror-image of the Black TV announcer for NASCAR. In our world you can make good money by finding a ‘spot’ previously unfilled. I truly wonder about Christie’s *real* comments when amongst only friends and family. I’m betting they laugh their butts off (all the way to the bank). Sometimes I think Ann Coulter (as a female Limbaugh) also uses this method. She seems too intelligent (at times) to actually believe some of the ridiculous things she repeats over and over – and her intentions when doing things like calling Edwards a fag are simply obvious.

I think they are ALL too intelligent to believe the bilge they spew (Christie,Limbaugh,Coulter,Beck, and on and on) – they do it for the meanest of reasons – money.
In other words they are cowards and traitors to their country!
djjl, for me this just means ‘money’ is once again the root of the problem.
I know the wars and the economy deserve our undivided attention – but the way we are electing our “leaders” and make our “laws” has now gone off the deep end. These two subjects are of MAJOR importance:
#1 We MUST go to ‘public election support’ and break the hold of corporate election monies. Accomplishing this could ALSO reform the concept of ‘two parties’ so that ’3rd choice’s have a positive chance, instead of killing the party they’re most similar to.
#2 We MUST eliminate the outright buying of votes by lobbiests. In this country, a piece of paper with Ben Franklin’s picture on it is more important and more powerful than Your Vote.
“cowards and traitors” may be a bit harsh, djjl.
We’re all probably guilty of cowardice at times, but ‘motive’ can be a difficult thing to define. I believe it was Chris Rock who said “Fidelity is simply a matter of Opportunity”. To me, this blunt observation of human actions is paralleled by the concept of ‘patriotism is simply a matter of self-benefit’. Many people I’ve known seem to put either ‘family’ or ‘god’ above patriotism. When that is true, then simply being financially successful (and taking care of your ‘family’) can make them ‘brave & strong’, not cowards – at least in their own eyes. Such “Strong Americans” (again, in their vision) would be enraged at your word “traitor”.

Right On.
Ramsgate, assuming you would like to ‘reach’ such people and perhaps alter their point of view toward your own – my point was simply that applying harsh labels rarely does anything to accomplish that goal. In fact, it does the reverse.
Assuming we want to convince others “we” are correct, of course.
Love the Sarah for 2012? ads on this page at the moment.
Those who want to see the Rightwing lose should probably be pretending support for that idea. Maybe even send money. Guess that’s how things work these days.

Unfortunately, I do not believe their views can be altered.
They people are in a different universe and are beyond all reason.
They would have to be born again.
