Here is a news flash for Obama……if you can’t find Mawlawi Jalaluddin Haqqani, and you can’t and you won’t, you will never find Osama bin Laden. Even if you’re in office for 50 years. Haqqani worked for the CIA for 20 years before he turned against the agency. He knows how the CIA operates and has been running it, the US military and US contractors in circles for years. The question that should be asked and answered is why Haqqani and bin Laden, another CIA asset, turned against the United States? Peace

Ok…the picture of Justices is very funny, but there’s no way those guys are bought and paid for. I know something about the law/lawyers/judges. Being on the Supreme Court is a HUGE, HUGE pay cut for all of those justices. They do it because they love our country, no matter how much we might disagree with them — although I think they’re right on this issue.
By that notion, being virtually any public servant/ elected politician would be an equivalent HUGE, HUGE, HUGE pay cut – except for the fact it is a HIGH, HIGH PAYING JOB FOR LIFE…..etc.
Look at all those poor, pitifully poor, supreme court justices. They’d NEVER BE ACTIVISTS on this court.

This is so weighted with personal and subjective statements and observations, I presume you’ve had long and fruitful conversations with many a supreme court justice.
Being a senator was a pay raise for the late great professor Wellstone. No one would accuse him of being bought and paid for, which was the point of the satirical picture and, I think, very wrong. McCain – Feingold is a terrible piece of legislation and for Obama to insult the Justices — Mr. Corporate Cash shake down himself, was just unseemly

Okay since this was declared ‘free time’ – and my entire system is not allowing me to sleep – I’m going to vent a little. Taylor has known me now for many years and I’m not one to draw too much attention usually. I come here because it replaces the ‘chat rooms’ I so enjoyed years ago. Perhaps that’s why I enjoy both Secular and (gasp) Imhotep.
The question I’d like to ask tonight is, given the *many* attempts to ‘fix’ this healthcare problem (and a health care system being run by insurance companies is certainly a problem) over decades of argument and disputes –
What percentage of this reform ‘package’ do you have to agree with before you back it *totally* ? — KNOWING that some sort of reform is absolutely essential ?
I mean – let’s face it – if you expect “perfection” then you are truly a fool. SOMETHING is going to be in this thing that makes *each* of us irritated.
But excuse me – not HALF as pissed as people whose rates just increased by 30% or those of us who are literally dieing because we need tests and treatments we can’t afford and no one will insure us. I’m sure you’re aware most “specialists” won’t even SEE a “private pay” or uninsured person, anyway. Recently, someone (I’m in CA) said I needed to see the ‘MAP’ people for health-care financial help. Um – they needed to understand – I spent a month and a half on life support, and a few months in the hospital. I don’t think there’s room here for the dollar figure as to how much I owe MAP. I was unisured.
So anywho – here’s to those who are happy with their health insurance – and ‘healthy’ anyways.

It makes me ashamed of our entire political system.I just cannot understand how on earth these congress people can go home and hear from folks like you and not go back to DC determined to work something out. I really don’t know how they sleep at night.

secular, you really should have your medication levels checked. I’m starting to worry about you man. If you can find your way through that……well, whatever it is that’s happening to your mind…… try to stay focused a bit and answer the question. Perhaps that way you can find your way back from the brink old chum. Because of the apparent purple haze that has seemingly enveloped your faculties the qusetion was: Why did bin Laden, Haqqani and KSM, who all worked for the CIA, turn on the United States? Type slowly and try not to use polysyllabic words as they might tend to confuse and frustrate you. Peace

Hey, I lived in LA for almost 2 decades, coming from New York via Missouri. Of course I drive in it. We took hubby’s big fat truck (35″ tires) down the GW Parkway in Dec. when not a soul could drive it. MARVELOUS.

I’m glad this is a free for all, as you really started the ball rolling.
Some people might think I’m joking, but I’m very serious. I think it’s high time someone give serious thought to what happens to seemingly able men and women who go to Washington and join the ranks of Congressional Democrats. Formidable men and women who perform superbly at the state level somehow lose all their nerve, gravitas, and street smarts once they arrive in the nation’s capital, as Democrats.
The minute they arrive in the House of Senate once proud ideologues and people of conviction, begin “reaching across the aisle”, when they know the other side has no intention of reciprocating. Suddenly they begin to withstand and endure any abuse from the other side as they persist in a futile search for cooperation. Up close, they no longer see the Republicans for who and what they really are; they adamantly refuse to acknowledge the changes that have taken place within the Republican party. They refuse to acknowledge that it’s governed by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.
Something is wrong with Democrats.
It is impossible to me to have an entire body politic so completely without backbone and/or conviction about anything. They keep looking for goodwill. But when the other side is trying to destroy you, you’ve seen the pictures with bones in your President’s nose, you just have to take precedent into account. You don’t give in, and then give in more, and then give in more, thinking they will change. Why should they when you just keep giving them what they want? Democrats are the ones who do all the compromising.
I put the question again: Is there anything — anything at all — that a Democrat believes strongly enough that s/he will not, cannot compromise on? I used to think it was abortion, but as we saw recently they were prepared to sell women out for the greater health bill. Some may say civil rights. Who is prepared to bet that Obama would not want his HCR bill even though it called for re-segregating schools, and the Democrats would agree “we could go back and fix it afterwards”. I could even hear Clyburn and Harkin saying that with straight faces. Precedent has shown me that no matter what they say beforehand, these pusillanimous Democrats will always have an excuse to cave in. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. Nothing is sacred to Democrats because they have no moral principles.
Every time, on every level and on every matter, the Congressional Democrats are out played, out maneuvered, out gunned, out-thought, out smarted by the Republicans. The Democrats are always begging and pleading and whining like sissies. Gawd, they’re pathetic. Something is wrong with these people. They’re not normal. Is it that they love abuse? The thing is the Republican have nothing to offer but hate and division, so they will keep losing.
But all the same, when will the Democrats wake up and see that there is no amount of pleading, arm-twisting, or ego-massaging on their or Obama’s part that will change or make Republicans cooperate. There will never be bi-partisanship. Their Plans must be adjusted to face reality.
