About Pres. Obama’s seriousness on terrorism, comeuppance delivered. Dick Cheney will be so depressed.
The Taliban’s top military commander was captured several days ago in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and American intelligence forces, according to American government officials.
The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks. …
What a difference having something besides a Musharaff policy in Pakistan means to the U.S. and Pakistan.
I’m going to give a real push on this one to the counsel of Joe Biden, who cross-posted here about Pakistan back when few had any strategy whatsoever on what to do in that country. Biden’s quiet counsel had to really mean something when Obama was crafting his strategy.
But it’s the folks at Langley that I’d buy the drinks for on this one right now. Spencer Ackerman adds a warning.

“The shoe-bomber was an American citizen.” Newt Gingrich
- Um. No. He wasn’t.
“Obama is too soft”
- He’s killed more terrorists than you did.
“Oh no! What a Mistake! You can’t question (torture) them if you Kill them.”
- This Talaban leader was captured.
“You probably read him his rights.”
- Actually, this didn’t happen in America.
“I hope he Fails.” Rush Limbaugh
I’ve always wondered about the average IQ in America. I can’t believe people can’t see what the right wing is doing here. Just how obvious does it have to be. Now they’re afraid the healthcare meeting is a “trap”. Excuse me? You can’t trap someone who is straight-forward and honest. As one person claimed: “If Obama cured cancer – they’d complain about the population explosion he created.”
yes i heard. good news. fox will make sure this gets blinded by their noise.
Oh, I almost forgot the Orange Crush (Boner):
I know this doesn’t apply to the Pakistan capture, but __
On February 8th, Republican House leader John Beohner sent a letter to the White House, demanding the White House post online any health care proposal it wished to discuss at the health care summit:
“If the President intends to present any kind of legislative proposal at this discussion, will he make it available to members of Congress and the American people at least 72 hours beforehand?”
So, four days later, the White House accepted this demand, and announced it would indeed post a legislative proposal online more than 72 hours before the summit:
“Since this meeting will be most productive if information is widely available before the meeting, we will post online the text of a proposed health insurance reform package.”
So, of COURSE, the next day, Boehner attacked the White House for doing exactly that:
“A productive bipartisan discussion should begin with a clean sheet of paper,” Boehner complained.
It’s simply sickening. How OBVIOUS does it have to be the Right wing is FAR more interested in their own self-interest than they are this country.
I repeat. How obvious does it have to be ?
Any bets on how long it takes for imhopless to get on with his/her/it’s usual bitch and moan drone about warmonger this and Hillary that?
As for the repugnantklan, pmichael, you just NOW realized the repugs are sickening?
Sec, I’ve known it for many years. My frustration is with those people I know who are normally *very* intelligent, good people who somehow aren’t seeing it.
Nah. Imhotep will now probably move on to how ‘Ball’ lightning works or something – just to prove how much more brilliant he is than the rest of us.
You seein’ your new avatar yet ?
I hope the interrogators use their innate intelligence when questioning Barader. And ask themselves “if I were in this guy’s position, how would I want to be treated?” This may be naive but torturing isn’t going to work and will only harden his people against the captors.
Yet on MJ this morning they were talking as if…Well,he is being interogated in Pakistan and they torture so maybe we can get some good intelligence.
Despite the overall criticism of Obama it seems to me that he is having some successes in this area. It would be nice if the MSM would stop playing handmaidens to far right thinking.
They are so set for a pile on for the guy they LOVED a year ago. Joe just came out and said he is failing. He said the Dems in congress have told him,it’s amateur hour at the WH.Of course Joe thinks he has not been centrist enough and acts like Katrina vanden Hueval is a nut case for saying the Dems need to field more populist candidates in 2010. I think she is exactly correct.
How stupid is our military? There’s no need to answer that because it was a rhetorical question. Obama and his military geniuses launced Operation Moshtarak a few days back. The administaration tells us that between 15 and 20 thousand NATO forces, including a few thousand Afghani soldiers, went into Marjah in Helmand province which is the stronghold of Mullah Omar. There are two official languages in Afghanistan. The Pashtun speak one of them and the other is Dari. Operation Moshtarak is taking place in the Pashtun region and Mullah Omar and the Taliban are mostly Pashtun. Yet the word “Moshtarak” is a Dari word meaning “together.” Again, how stupid is our military? Couple that with the fact that this operation is a purely political move on Obama’s part (sinking poll numbers and the inability to win on any front) and the sunlight begins to shine through. The fighting season in Afghanistan generally begins in early April as does the poppy harvest (no coincidence that). So even the timing of this operation is suspect except for political reasons. Peace
Our military service men and women, are anything but stupid.
daubry, ever serve in the military? I’d bet not. Remember it was Forrest Gump who said “Stupid is as stupid does.” Now, make for me a good case as to how it wasn’t utterly stupid to name this Operation Moshtarak using the facts that you now know and didn’t know before you were told? Peace
Seems to me that the military is the only institution that is working in our country. I do think that we are in danger of fetishizing the military as we try to out do our patriotism.I can understand how an enlisted person could see it as stupid but at least it’s leadership has studied their craft for years.
It always amazes me when somebody sitting alone at their computer (with obviously, nothing but time on their hands) can KNOW MORE than every other expert in the world. LOL
Operation Moshtarak is so called because Moshtarak, originally an Arabic word meaning ‘Together’, has come into use in both the Pashtun and Dari languages in Afghanistan.
How stupid are some commenters ?
(see Forrest Gump)
When imhopless was in the military there there most CERTAINLY was an element of stupid is as stupid does. However after Uncle Sugar was unable to grovel and convince his HUGE inflated ego to stay the general IQ went up considerably.
“Now, make for me a good case as to how it wasn’t utterly stupid to name this Operation Moshtarak using the facts that you now know and didn’t know before you were told?”
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in hand and a bunch of DEAD Taliban.
Case made.
He/she/it’s just pissed they didn’t sit around and contemplate the golden ratio(will SOMEBODY turn off that stupid music?) before telepathicly contacting him/her/it for advice.
And the one note symphany plays on…to an empty house! Empty except for his/her/it’s fan club of one, him/her/itself.
