There’s been a ridiculous back and forth going on that started with Rahm Emanuel calling the liberal activist strategy on health care “f-ing retarded.” This ticked off Sarah Palin, who evidently thinks her cute son Trig is either a liberal, an activist or somehow involved in the health care debate. Then of course, Rush, sensing a moment of supreme carnival opportunity, went on a “retarded” tirade:
“Our political correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards,” Rush said, adding that Rahm’s meeting yesterday with advocates for the mentally handicapped was a “retard summit at the White House.” – Rush Limbaugh
Greg Sargent now has been awarded the highest rhetorical honor, because Sarah Palin has now attacked him through her spokesperson, after he quoted Rush’s “retarded” avalanche:
“Governor Palin believes crude and demeaning name calling at the expense of others is disrespectful.”
Fox has printed Sarah Palin’s attack on Sargent’s Plum Line, which is simply being referred to as the Washington Post.
This whole thing is just retarded. Are we seriously going to call out the language police every time someone utters a sentence? Sarah Palin’s quick draw political correctness is not only insultingly calculated, it’s retarded. But it seems nothing embarrasses Palin, especially when it concerns making molehills mountains, especially since she’s selectively outraged, because she’s judged going after Rush would just be retarded. Some people are above her puny punch.
It makes me want to see how many times I can use the word retarded today. I hate political correctness, have always hated it. When it’s professed by a sanctimonious Republican thinking she has the moral high ground because of a child that wasn’t being cited or referred to in any way in any part of this kerfuffle it’s even more retarded. When it’s obvious said Republican is only directing her outrage at liberals it’s even worse.

Ha Ha Ha….and I’m a Special Ed teacher
The use Palin has made out of poor little Trig is beyond shameful. I have such sympathy for all of her children. I wonder which one will write the “Mommy Dearest” of the future about their mother?
As an aside. I used to say that if I ended up with a mentally handicapped child …please let it be a Down’s child. They are almost universally adorable people with sunny personalities. They can be and are for the most part successfully integrated with the larger community. They make a lot progress with the right educational programming and bring joy to their families and with extra planning and training can fully participate in a rewarding life. It is not a tragedy to have a Down’s child once you get over the idea that you did not have a perfect child.
Well, I hate personally hate when people use the word “retarted” as an insult – and I don’t have anyone I know who is afflicted with retardation.
I think more importantly, this shows a lack of class and education on the part of those who use it – seems to me this kind of insult is used by 6th graders who think they are being cool. I visibly wince when I hear educated people use this term – they sound stupid.
I have told my kids that the language they use is a direct reflection of who they are.
Enough said.
Just so you know I was laughing at Taylor’s point of getting ridiculous about politically correct speech not at the use of the word retarded. It is all a grand distraction.I agree with kris and have raised my daughter that way.
Every generation has had their share of “lingo” that they use to describe any given situation. “Retarded” is a word that is used quite often in modern-day speak. But don’t get your bloomers all twisted. It’s a word, like so many other words, that is used to describe any given moment and it will soon be replace with another word. As I learned when I was a little girl, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” During the years I worked in the international area I learned to be very careful how I used language. The one thing that I did not want to do was to create an international brooha because of poor language choice. That’s where language is important. I think poor Sarah Palin is going off the deep end because she has nothing better to comment on. I do wish that Rahm had picked a better phrase.
When I started in the field mongoloid was used for Down’s and idiot was used for retarded,in fact the word retarded was in use as the polite word until developementally disabled came into vouge.I’m talking about text books.
Bruce Hornsby has a great song that he wrote for his sons. It’s titled “Sticks and Stones”. I tried to find a video of it, but no luck.
A portion of the lyrics go….”sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words will ALWAYS hurt me”.
The whole song puts context to the line. If you want to hear the song, which is really worth listening to, go to his website.
Hey Taylor -
2 feet of snow? High winds?
Are you still glad you moved to the D.C. area?
True, it’s all so “retarded.” What do you expect when you get Rahm Emmanuel, Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh in a room together?
Speaking of RETARDED:
Our Commander in Chief doesn’t know how to Pronounce “Corpsman!”
President Obama mispronounced the word corpsman THREE TIMES (!) at the National Prayer Breakfast. Many are excusing him for his over-dependence on a teleprompter.
Come on. Anyone who knows how the word is pronounced properly — particularly the Commander in Chief of all U.S. military — will also know how to read it from a teleprompter.
Navy corpsmen, often at the highest risk on battlefields; they suffer the most deaths in the Navy? Does Obama know that 22 Navy corpsmen have received the Medal of Honor, most posthumously? I couldn’t find complete stats on Iraq and Afghanistan, but here’s a 2007 figure of the number who’ve died in Iraq:
Through mid-July, 82 Navy service members have perished in Iraq, most assigned to specialties such as Navy SEALs, pilots and corpsmen duties, according to Defense Department statistics.
Moore said that Noble is the 30th medical corpsman to be killed[as of July 2007] in Iraq.
Watch our Retard in Chief call them “corpsemen”

Who are these “corpsmen” Obama can’t refer to properly and respectfully?

I agree with Kris @ 10:44. I believe in civil discourse. One should think before one speaks. At least we should try to.
Having said that, I think the Democrats are forever apologizing, and that is a habit that should stop. It’s time we say what we mean and mean what we say.
And more importantly Democratic politicians have to learn how to frame and sharpen their attacks on the Republicans more effectively. Right now, their attacks are like trees falling in the forest.

Retard-In-Chief? Come on Noogan. You can do better than that. I think this is most unfair after the previous president. Let’s not go there.
Was I mean?
I just don’t think I could have done it any better, Ramsgate.
It was a riff on the original theme. I wonder if Palin would be angry at that one. But, I can see why you’d be reminded of the previous president; it’s so much like him.
Cheers
