Tiger Talks

Tiger Woods has an I’m The King Of The World ego fetish.

It seemed from his apology today that he gets that point. Golf journalists boycotted the spectacle. Good for them.

But Brit Hume will be happy. Woods mentioned his Buddhism; that he was raised in the Buddhist faith. The reality of seeking something outside yourself to fill a gap, make you happy, doesn’t work, he’s found out. He’s getting back to Buddhism, which for him gets him back in touch with something beyond his egomaniacal celebrity.

It was a serious, somber recitation of words that he’d rehearsed and obviously felt. But the creepy moves talking straight to the camera were cringe worthy.

“I have let you down. I have let down my fans…”

Then Mr. Woods directed comments to those who work for him, but also his business partners and board of directors, but also his wife, Elin.

“There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage. Ever. … Elin deserves praise, not blame. … .. I cheated… I am the only one to blame.”

Full stop. Who in the world is blaming Elin?

“It’s hard to admit I need help, but I do.”

Let’s regroup, folks, even as Tiger Woods talks about his in-patient therapy, it’s much simpler. Tiger’s sexual rambunctiousness is about satiating his physical ego. Changing behavior is about discipline. But it’s nice to have a modern day manufactured “sexual addiction” for you to blame. John Edwards, Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, Dick Morris, Henry Hyde… you name it, can relate. It’s about discipline, pure and simple, realizing that your physical ego isn’t more important than everything else in the world. Porn wouldn’t be a gazillion dollar industry if it was simply about sexual addiction.

“Please leave my wife and kids alone…” The press stalking Woods’ family obviously upset him, especially since it’s his fault. But it does invoke sympathy, which Tiger needs right now.

Tiger hugged his mother at the end. Then hugged a bunch of other people in the front row. Overproduced doesn’t begin to describe it.

Now, let’s get back to business: Making money. Begin the brand re-polishing, game on, though Tiger didn’t say when he’d be back to golfing. But the sport, which I love, isn’t the same without Tiger.

I just want him back in the game, which all this sexual addition, therapy, I have to publicly flog myself, just delays. But this is our self-righteous American culture in action. I find the whole thing just stupidly wasteful. Hey, but Tiger’s a brand. It’s the price.

Before I go back to taking care of my own yard, I did find it interesting that Tigre spoke about his business partners. I think that cuts to the kernel of what this is about. This presser was about business. Pure and simple. Anything for the consumption of his family and friends could have been done in the privacy that he obviously enjoys. And most people who enjoyed watching him play just want him to resume playing.

So if he ever asked, my advise would be to go back to playing the sport he was born to play, keep winning and stay away from the more tawdry aspects of celebrity. The rest will take care of itself.

Very funny indeed. I don’t agree with it the reason why the Dems can’t get anything done or why Obama is so ineffectual but it is still funny.

What’s this I hear about Russ Feingold not willing to vote for the PO because he is an “institutional purist” and he does not believe in reconciliation? Boy has he been a disapointment. I think Bernie Saunders is about where the middle should be. Left/ right has gotten so scewed to the right successfully by the Repubs and the media that mwfolsom’s cartoon is about right.

I don’t care much about Tiger Woods or his brand but I will say this…. This should be a cautionary tale to parents who fullfill their own ego through their children.I am not surprised that Tiger has a gap inside, when was he ever allowed to find out who he is and what his natural inclinations are? His father is the supreme egotist in this tale IMHO. I guess Taylor and I disagree on this one because I think it is easy to see how he could harbor an addiction.

I wish Tiger well in dealing with whatever demons he has. I wish is family well and hope they are able to live a full healthy life. My understanding of why he might refer to his business partners is that his behavior cost them billions. He does have an ethical obligation to them.

Now, I’d like to see him play and not hear anymore about his personal life. I turn the channel whenever I here a piece coming up on him. It’s this kind of media voyeurism that leaves us with nothing being reported that gives us meaningful news.

Too bad you don’t feel that way about Elizabeth Edwards

I think it is ironic that Tiger correctly cites the Eastern principle of not chasing happiness through things that are outside oneself. Yet that is what the whole Tiger brand is about. He helps sponsors sell things to people who think they can be cooler just because they buy things Tiger recommends.

Today Tiger told the world that what he is selling is worthless. And it is.

Well that would apply to pretty much everybody. I think his comment was deeper than that.

The making of money justifies any and every behavior no matter how evil? Tiger may say he’s a Buddhist, but he sure doesn’t act and think like any Buddhist that I know. He’s just one more hollowed out capitalist who dances to the organ grinders tune. A prisoner of that giant plantation he believes himself to be the master of. Peace

Regarding the dude who’s only sorry he got caught and lost all the endorsements, don’t care, don’t care OH JEEBUS FU*KIN CRISPIES don’t care.

On a FAR more funny note regarding imhopless and his bloated ego inspired verbal spewage

He’s just one more hollowed out weatherman wannabee who dances to his/her/it’s own one note symphony tune. A prisoner of that giant fevered conspiracy he believes himself to be the master of. Peace of dreck.

Regarding the dude who’s only sorry he got caught…

    Yep, that’s the bottom line.

Secular and Taylor: this link http://bit.ly/VOJk is wicked funny imo, regarding Tiger’s inner struggle, even if it is, well, more off color than most things we post here.

djjl, Of course the concept we were referring to could be taken to some depth. But in saying you thought his comment was “deeper,” you seemingly imply that I missed something, while leaving me to read your mind as to what you think that something might be. I would rather you spell out what you got from Tiger’s speech. That would leave the way open for a more interesting exchange between us.
