–updated–

Speaker Pelosi held what is being called “a small roundtable with bloggers today.” Greg Sargent has a good report on it. One problem. He doesn’t mention that there were no women in attendance. Brian Beutler doesn’t mention it in his reporting either. Matthew Yglesias at least names (some of) the men in attendance. I’ve confirmed it was indeed an all-male meeting.
Chris Bowers at least tweeted there were no women present. According to Bowers, Pelosi said “she kept the public option alive as long as she could.” That it’s “important not to dwell on public option and abortion. Better to focus on the good things in the bill.” Pelosi contended that she “endorses single payer, says she is for the public option. Says she was told there weren’t the votes in the senate.”
So, Speaker Pelosi holds a final push roundtable on health care, cherry-picking the attendance, but no women show up.
Evidently, the men attending, minus Bowers, didn’t notice it; either that or they decided to do Speaker Pelosi a favor by not reporting it. After all, it is rather embarrassing for her.
Meanwhile, MoveOn.org hits a new low. Taking a page from Liz Cheney, they use the “patriotism” charge against people and legislators who simply want a public option, as well as to continue to stand up for women’s rights. Stay classy, MoveOn.

This is so, so wrong – only Pelosi and a bunch of Anglo guys.
To top it off we get the quote “important not to dwell on public option and abortion. Better to focus on the good things in the bill.”
Madam Speaker should be ashamed of herself but I seriously doubt that’s possible she lost her ethics long ago.
Pelosi actually mentioned “single payer”?
More to your point, Taylor, I’m not sure which would be worse: the first woman to serve as Speaker omits even a “token” woman as an oversight or a conscious decision.
This proves my point.
These people will do ANYTHING for access.
Why shouldn’t she laugh in our faces the next time?
And guess what? They all think, Kucinich is the one who is SICK.
Take a look at MoveOn.org’s new ad, which I just posted. They use the PATRIOTISM card.
Channeling Liz Cheney. Wow.
“Why shouldn’t she laugh in our faces the next time?”
Which gets me back to voters / constituents’ responsibility to hold Electeds accountable.
MoveOn moves right in definining “PATRIOTISM.”
Yep, JoyceA, you’re right re: MoveOn. It’s a despicable ad that reveals the desperation.
There can be little doubt that institutional Dems are pulling out all the stops, fearing a quick funding shortage if they don’t.
This is all so monumentally depressing. I figure we’ll bomb Iran next. We can’t do anything right in this country. How much longer the money and the electricity work is anybody’s guess.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi better get that alot of democrats, independents, and even some republicans are upset that a public option is not in the bill and they think she and the democrats didn’t fight for it. I would think women such as Taylor Marsh, who is a well known blogger and other women would have either been at the meeting or should have been invited to the meeting that the House Speaker was holding. I guess she didn’t want to hear nothing but praise for the bill or she didn’t want to hear a womans point of view or the women decided not to show up. I think the democratic party only cares about itself and does not care what others think !!!

I know it wasn’t supposed to, but your comment made me laugh out loud.
Oh Lordy, we’re in it now, TJ.
Women of America should be embarrassed
The sad part Taylor is that TJ is not wrong. We don’t have an institution that is working right now. The people are on their own and we all need to start thinking about that.
The scary part is that the wing nuts are armed to the teeth and into survial. When civil unrest happens, and it will,it could get very ugly.
MoveOn has completely sold out…anyone who has spent any time paying attention to the HC debacle and you know the people at MoveOn have, know that this is a lousy bill.
nzanh….or furious!!
We’re fighting a lousy war in Afghanistan so why shouldn’t we get a lousy health care bill? Anyway a lousy health care bill that gets 30 million people some affordable health care and pisses off the Republicans in the process ain’t all bad. It’s just too bad that Obama sold out the Left to the pompous warmongering set on the Afghan war. Peace
“Anyway a lousy health care bill that gets 30 million people some affordable health care and pisses off the Republicans in the process ain’t all bad”
Imhotep,
Please tell me,what in this bill makes healthcare affordable?Yes,you can’t be excluded for pre-existing conditions, but they can charge you 3 or 4 times the cost..Without a Public Option, there’s no cost controls on private Insurance companies..
This video is a classic representation of what ails our society. Everything is painted into some oversimplified black and white construct, and well intentioned people buy into it: side with big insurance or vote yes — there you have it! It’s so simple . . .
If only we could have open and HONEST debate.

TonyB39, you’ve asked the million dollar question.
No kidding, LLady.
That’s the only way this current bill can be framed, DP. If they allow a broad debate that includes the PO they lose.
…Except they wouldn’t lose; they just think they will.
They seem to be playing a game of duplicity, believing the american people can be bamboozled, and maybe the american people are less stupid than they take them to be. dunno. time will tell The people are stuck with bad choices in their representatives/senators/ prez. I guess it’s something about the system, heavily influenced by money
Hi Taylor and all my fellow Marshians.
Nancy Pelosi has forgotten she’s a woman or maybe she likes being one of the boys. Wait until America sees what the insurance companies have in store for them if this bill passes. Talk about a disaster in the making. It’s gonna happen. And I gave up on MoveOn a long time ago. They have no real convictions.
Heya JA.
Wait until America sees what the insurance companies have in store for them if this bill passes.
Yep, you nailed it there.
Pilgrim, it’s good people propping up parties and politicians, while forgetting who they’re supposed to be representing. While institutional & other groups suck it up so they won’t get frozen out.
