Taylor — Is this an open thread? If not I apologize… Just wanted to pose a question to you all re: a scandal going on here in Oregon — related to the Oregon Duck football team. A bit of background for those who don’t know.. The Ducks won the PAC-10 and went to the Rose Bowl this year (lost… HAHA as I’m an OSU BEAVER fan… NOT a Duck fan)… Anyway, FF to the last month… the team has been experiencing multiple arrests.. and the biggest two involve their star QB, Jeremiah Musoli… plead guilt today for burglery (robbed laptop, etc. from a frat), and their star RB, LaMichael James (LMJ), who plead guilty for a domestic dispute — harassment. My question involves the domestic abuse. Although the QB was suspended today for the season, the RB was only suspended for the first game of the season (a lame game against New Mexico which won’t make a hoot of difference).
The DA’s report came out today… and it involves an argument between LMJ and his girlfriend who discovered LMJ had another female in his apartment. Here’s what the police report says:
1) the girlfriend (GF or victim in my comments below) arrived uninvited at his apartment and tried to speak with the other girl who called LMJ who was not home. LMJ returned home.
2) LMJ arrived, asked girlfriend to leave, then “physically removed the victim from the area immediately in front of his residence door.”
(victim = girlfriend – GF)
3)while GF was being held by LMJ, she grabbed his necklace … the necklace broke and LMJ became angry
4) LMJ grabbed the victim by her collar and pushed her against his car. Victim got in LMJ’s car and pulled his keys from the ignition. LMJ grabbed victim to pull her from his car, but she kept his keys and ran from the car
5) LMJ caught up to her and grabbed her waist. The two fell into bark mulch on the ground. LMJ got his keys back and that ended the incident.
The reason I ask you all is that I was listening to the radio on the way home, and all the males are stating that this is really no big deal. I understand that they were having an argument… but when it gets physical… and when the physical part was started by an All-Star college FB player… I don’t think it is “no big deal”…
This is the same university that had LaGarret Blount playing for them — the star RB that punched the Boise State player after the game beginning of last season. Blount was suspended for the season… but then reinstated mid-season by Coach Kelly. I have little respect for this coach..

BTW Obama is not wearing a T-shirt. He is wearing what used to be called and undershirt (as opposed to a T-shirt). It’s now usually referred to as an “A shirt.” A-shirts have traditionally been used as undershirts, especially with suits and dress shirts. (Some refer to the shirts as “wife beaters” as well as other names).
T- shirts are T- shirts due to their “T” shape. Here’s an interesting story of the T-shirt.
My grandfather always wore what were then called “undershirts” like the one Obama is wearing. T-shirts – my dad wore – never saw him in an undershirt or A shirt. I always thought Grandpas undershirts were weird looking – but he said a man should always have proper undergarments and a hat on his head. My dad never wore a hat either.

I’m not certain that he’ll get another term. Occasionally I get a feeling things may pull together just in time. The talent is out there – I’m just not so sure of the principle needed to make talent matter.
