“As part of his comprehensive plan to secure the Southwest border, President Obama will request $500 million in supplemental funds for enhanced border protection and law enforcement activities,” an administration official said Tuesday. “The president will also deploy up to an additional, requirements-based 1,200 National Guard troops to the border to provide intelligence; surveillance and reconnaissance support; intelligence analysis; immediate support to counternarcotics enforcement; and training capacity until Customs and Border Patrol can recruit and train additional officers and agents to serve on the border.”
The move is designed to quell an uproar over border security and immigration policy, but Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is poised to ask for even more troops – he plans to request 6,000 Guardsmen for the border.
In light of the crisis in competence for Pres. Obama on BP’s Gulf blowout, coming after the heavy-handed Arizona immigration law, perhaps Obama’s political team decided they had to do something.

I will leave it to Sarah Palin will define this for what it is.
I’m wondering if the National Guard is still heavily deployed in the two wars? Do they even have enough guard to do this job?
It is all about elections all the time with both sides. Nobody is looking out for us or our land. No attempt at rational solutions for anything including health care. Special interests, corporate greed and theft rule the day.
Maybe Sestak will decide to run a primary challenge in 2012. I would work night and day for him at this point.
I guess in someways, Arizona governor Jan Brewer got her way. She wanted national guard troops on the border along with many republicans also wanted that and president Obama did. They wanted more troops though, and I am sure they might get that too. 500 million dollars along with border security.
If there were no jobs they would not come. The Republicans really don’t want this cheap Mexican, Central and South American labor to stop crossing the border. It’s too good for their bottom line. The Democrats love it for the same reason. Plus, by making those mean Republicans look like evil racists the Dems get a bunch of votes at election time. The Catholic Church sides with the Democrats because the Church in North America is shrinking and most of these poor Hispanics from south of the border are Catholics who donate a few pennies to the collection plate every Sunday. This whole thing is a racket and a sideshow. Peace
was reading the details on these spending bills we need passed. on politico it looks like chaos again as obama goes slient on 28bil in funds to save 300,000 teachers’ jobs. pelosi and obey however and pushing on thank god. even baucus is pushing for the money. but some blue dogs are worried not about people working. so obama runs to a fundraiser in ca while crucial stimulus bills are being negotiated with zero guidance from wh to get them passed.
oh but wh made sure money will be added to the tune of 2 bil for sen cornyn and co to secure our borders or some shit. 2 bil!
and dadt repeal appears in limbo as jim webb throws it into chaos on the armed services cmte. we need one freakin vote here- its down to byrd and ben nelson. or could obama get off his ass and call say webb on this? could he?
so we arrive at the question i asked about bush. why did obama run for president? if he didnt really want to lead america then why? or is this something else- did daschle etc give obama tons of donors to beat hillary and keep her out as many accounts go. i wonder- should we also then be angry at daschle and the money bags of the party who worked like hell to get obama in with oodles of money while obama himself was not nearly ready for this job? these superdelegates and poombahs that pushed and defamed obama’s oppoenents- do they have any moral culpability in what we are seeing these days? is obama a sort of vicitm of those in the party hell bent on keep another clinton from power? im reading waaay too much bad news it appears.
also watched rep murphy on maddow. what a class act. he gave a moral arguement for passing the dadt amend. when maddow pressed him on webb and brown opposing he said we are all americans and must be treated as equals. he really shamed these dudes. btw murphy is in a vulnerable seat and may well lose but he fighting anyway for what is right. we need more jim murphys.
he also reminded webb sestak and waltz- the highest ranking mil folk in congress back the amend. sen collins today gave a great bit on the need to end dadt. kudos to her for being the only repub on the armed services cmte to say yes to ending dadt. will byrd or nelson kill this? im afraid to know
damn straight we should be furious with all of them!
“Eleven people are killed because of multinational corporate greed, malfeasance and possibly criminal negligence? I think Franklin Roosevelt would have jumped out of his wheelchair and run down here to be in the middle of this.” -James Carville

Such a dilemma for Electeds, when their constituents want opposing things: in this case, cheap labor vs “illegals.”
