Welcome to Elena Kagan’s infomercial.
What a colossally ham-handed tactic it is.
“Kagan in her own words,” sanitized for your perusal.
From CBS, which reveals some media frustration, which is just about as silly:
While the White House seems to believe the American people deserve to hear from Kagan, it has not made her available to reporters. That prompted some consternation at today’s White House briefing.
“It appears that Solicitor General Kagan did an interview yesterday right after the president’s announcement,” said a reporter. “You’ve now posted that on the White House Web site. Who did the interview? And can I have one?”
“I think it’s — I think it’s on the website if you want to see it,” responded Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
Soon after, the reporter can be heard saying, an edge in her voice, “So a White House staffer interviewing her.”
Gibbs says yes, and the reporter asks if Kagan would like to do another interview.
“She has — she’s not told me that, no,” replied Gibbs, prompting the reporter to respond, “Tell her we’re deeply frustrated.”
Like Elena Kagan was going to sit for press interviews at this point. Equally silly is that some are actually defending this nonsense.
But it’s obvious the Obama White House is paying close attention to Sarah Palin’s media strategy.
I’m not the only one who caught this either. Jonathan Turley even posted their pictures side by side.
That a woman who is supposed to be as accomplished as Elena Kagan actually agreed to sit down to deliver such sophomoric drivel reveals a subservience to presidential marketing that numbs the mind.
This is the level to which Supreme Court nominations have been reduced.
As Mediaite drooled about the White House’s access, “Man, that’s one helluva ‘get.’”

No Taylor, this is the level our crappy American Media has reduced Supreme Court nominations to…The whole nomination process is a cheap game played only to win political points for both sides. Republicans know Ms. Kagan is well qualified to be a Jusitce…but because she was nominated by Dem President in the middle of midterm election season they have to go out their way to find things to trash this woman on…
Dems or no different they did the same thing in tarnishing the images of Republican justice picks for the high court in the past…Also, I would not say they are following Sarah Palin path with Ms. Kagan…they did something similar with Sonia Sotomayor to a certain level.
Also, did I mention how wonderful it is to live in the 21 century and have a woman as accomplished like Ms. Kagan forced to clarify her sexual orientation to please the left & right media hacks…This woman should be judge on her career not private life…ugh
Woman living in America need to pay close attention to how Ms. Kagan is treated. She is a perfect example of a who woman worked her way to the top…yet, she is forced to answer for why she never married…gag
This nagging questions seems to only to apply for unmarried career women…
Jeez…I really need to cut down chatting on another page while commenting on Taylor articles at the same time…I keep making lots of typos…lol
I agree Marie205 I just wish one of these women would stand up and say,I chose to be single,I am happy with my life it works well for me.
Furthurmore the choice not to have children can be a principled choice too. Some women know that they are ambitious and plan to work long and hard hours to fullfill their dreams. They recognize that they are not going to be the kind of parents they think they should be so they choose to be childless. This to me is a far more moral choice than people who have children as accessories and then hire a nanny to raise them.
Instead of the media focusing on what kind of Justice Ms.Kagan would make…we have blogs like Andrew Sullivan obsessing over Ms. Kagan sex life…gross
The attacks on Ms. Kagan is “sexist” plain and simple…I still don’t believe she will make it past the nomination process…do simply because of her lack of judicial paper trail. Plus, she does not seem to please the left wing Dem base. I know women like Ms. Kagan who devote their whole lives to having a wonderful career. There is nothing wrong with staying single and pursing ones career…Men do it all the time Justice Souter was a single man all his life and never experienced the harsh questions Ms. Kagan face over her sex life. He was displayed in the media as a man devoted to his career…While Ms. Kagan is made to look like a closet lesbian who hates men…
I hate the double standards in America
There are lots of women that choose not to have childern or get married. Thats there right !! and its ok !! What a sad time were living in right now and I hope things like this change !!
I wish it would change too…But, if women have learned anything from how Hillary Clinton was treated and to a certain level Ms. Palin…these sexist notions are here to stay for a long time. Hillary Clinton was portrayed as a nagging closeted lesbian harpy & Sarah Palin is stereotyped as a good looking woman who lacks any brain power… High profile women are stuck in a no win situation…If your deemed to intelligent then the media will put you in the Hillary box…if your to attractive then you get the Sarah Palin treatment.
Career women like Hillary & Sarah should have been judge on what they say and do in relation to their jobs & positions they take on the issues… As a woman I can easily say Mrs. Palin stands for none of the issues that represent me…her being a woman does not change my views. This mindset puts me into looking at only the issues…same with Ms.Kagan I don’t feel she was the best choice for the court do to her lack of never being a judge.
FMI, I’ve never wavered from my child-free choice, getting married at the time of life Susan Faludi once pronounced it was easier to be killed by terrorists!
The WH has not covered itself in glory in the way they’ve handled Kagan’s nomination. They seem stuck in the 1950s. No wonder Obama didn’t like the “excesses of the 60s and 70s.”
