Michael Steele’s RNC Date with Andrew Breitbart

Breitbart’s hot and Michael Steele has got him.

So, come one!

Come all you right-wing Republicans and bring your cash.

This is how Republicans play the game. No shame. No blinking. They embrace their inner wingnut with both arms and open doors hoping Mr. Breitbart will bring in boat loads of cash when he comes. Because in the end for them it’s all about winning and anyone who can help rally the troops to help them do it is okay in their book.

I’d like to say that the 21st century Democratic Party has illustrated its own inner fighter, but since the Supreme Court handed the 2000 election to Bush we haven’t seen enough of it.

…and as much as I appreciate the sentiments of E.J. Dionne today, I also can’t begin to express how mind-numbingly sick I am of hearing another “call to action” over the latest wingnut outrage.

You’d think after getting beat on messaging by Sarah Palin’s “death panel” cry from her Facebook page, which happened one year ago this coming August, there would be a Democratic war room already geared up to take on predictable attacks like Mr. Breitbart’s race-baiting character assassinations.

But, no, Democrats still believe you beat people like Breitbart and Karl Rove’s anonymously funded machine by being reasonable.

In fact, Shirley Sherrod didn’t even get a beer summit. What’s up with that?

Mrs. Sherrod should be giving him weekend tutorials for the rest of his term.

Gromley’s book should be required reading for he and his staff.

Do you think there is any chance that all of the overt and accepted racism on the right at the moment, might bring out some of Obama’s AA supporters for the Dems right now?

That’s Carnahan’s only chance in MO. Blunt is six points ahead (huge in MO) and Obama’s approval rating is 34%. He lost the State by less than 1% in 2008.

    She’s too smart for it?

I’m at a total loss at the action or should I say inaction of the Democratic Party. It’s like they have all become masochistic and like to be beaten. There’s no push back anymore. What a bunch of whoozes!

The Republicans play to their base always and get the Independents.
The Democrats neglect their base, play to the mushy middle and lose everyone.

I noticed somewhere that Obama’s approval rating at NetRoots was 84%.
I said to myself: Uh Oh . . . so much for Elizabeth Warren. :-)

I think that in order to have any honest discussion about Mrs. Sherrod that it is imperative to consider that the intent of the video was not to show Mrs. Sherrod’s (alleged) racism but to show the racism of the NAACP rank and file. Rather than concentrate on her words, taken out of context in the original clip, focus on the reaction of the crowd in attendacne to those same words. Perhaps your alleigance to the democratic party and it’s allies, among which I would count the NAACP, does not allow you to view the clip from that perspective, but to have an honest discussion about the events and their repercussions, it is important to consider that point of view.

If, as is obvious, Sherrod’s words are taken out of context, then so are the reactions of the audience.

“Breitbart’s followers have parroted this indictment (NAACP audience is racist in their responses to Sherrod’s speech) in messages to numerous media outlets, including National Review and Slate. But is it true? Let’s look at the video. The key section starts around 16 minutes in. I’ll quote the speech and describe the reactions from the audience, to the extent I can discern them. You can check my version by listening to the audio as you follow along.”

The Dems are not wusses. It’s a false meme as the DNC are playing the same game as the RNC. They have forever. Both tell you to look at the other side, fear them and vote for us. Both get elected to increase their own power, while ignoring their respective base. Both hide behind each other…and the beat goes on!

Look at Netroots Nation convention. Its quickly becoming another conventional wisdom factory, as are the corporate funded tea parties. Co-opted and foiled, yet again. How long before Netroot Nations is called ExxonMobile Netroots Nation? *chuckling*

Taylor, what do you make of Obama sending Ray LaHood, his transportation secretary (a relatively low-level Cabinet position) to the convention as his rep? In my opinion, it would’ve been more honest had he sent Rahm to tell the (?)Progressives: You are just “f*cking ret*rded” and to shut up as Palin is waiting in the wings? Pardon the pun.

Stemming from the convention? I just watched Obama on TV mildly (MSNBC called it the president coming out with guns ablazin’, what a joke!) bashing the Republicans for hindering the legislation per Citizens United ruling. No doubt, trying to “appear” tougher on Republicans. and *mega-eyeroll*

The Blue Dogs are most vulnerable in November. My BDs here in Indiana, suck. So good riddance to all of them.

BTW, Elizabeth Warren in the *only* choice to represent WE THE CONSUMER. There is a petition. Please sign it, I did.

    Clinton/Grayson in 2012!!!

Didn’t Obama get an 84% approval or something close from the netroots at the convention? I don’t think it matters who he sent; but remember, he also video’d in. Besides, as I always say, in the end most party people come home.

As for Dems being wusses, I still contend it is true.

I’ve been saying this a lot, something I didn’t believe back in ’04, but Howard Dean strikes again, making more sense than anyone. I continue to believe that Dems can stick it to the right in Nov., but they need to engage their spine. On that note, I wish Congress would, too, and stand up to Pres. Obama when he’s wrong.

I have often said the biggest problem with the Democrats is that we are not tough enough. Now is the time to be tough. The fact is that the stimulus package has reduced unemployment from where it would have otherwise been in this Bush-induced recession (based on policies most of the Republicans now in Congress voted for). The fact is, as 60 members of the House and the CBO showed last week, the Public Option, or Medicare Buy-in, as it should more correctly be called, would have reduced the deficit over ten years by an additional $68 million dollars. The fact is that President Obama — despite Republicans killing the climate change bill — has done more in 18 months to change America’s approach to the environment and green jobs than any president in memory.

The fact is that if we are going to tackle the deficit, it makes no sense to cut taxes for people with plenty of money while we tell people who depend on Social Security and Medicare that they have to do with less, or to play games with unemployment insurance for those who need it most.

The fact is that the Democrats won the election in 2008. The Republicans refuse to do anything for the country except say “no”. That means we have to work hard and do what we believe is right. And we have to stop apologizing for it. We have to stand up for what we believe in and stop trying to make deals with people who cannot be trusted to make deals for the good of our country. It’s not too late to win in 2010. Conviction politics works. Just ask the right wing!

        yep,Dean is a good model.

        • NoFortunateSon 26 July 2010 at 6:50 pm #

Howard Dean is my go-to guy.

        • Taylor Marsh 26 July 2010 at 7:37 pm #

Lake Lady, everyone I’ve heard talk about Netroots Nation in Las Vegas says it was a roaring success. No doubt Dean fired ‘em up. It’s a big deal what they do there rallying activists, organizing, planning what movement progressives can do to take issues forward, as well as bolstering them. My hat goes off to them all.

          • Ramsgate 26 July 2010 at 11:43 pm #

@TM Success? Roaring success? Now let us see THE RESULTS of this roaring success.

            Will Elizabeth Warren be nominated?
            Will DADT be passed?
Will Democrats more aggressively confront the Republicans?
Will the Bush tax cuts for the rich be allowed to expire or will they compromise?

Want to bet nothing — ABSOLUTELY NOTHING — changes, in terms of policy.

          • Taylor Marsh 26 July 2010 at 11:50 pm #

You know, Ramsgate, what I believe about the Administration and general Democratic timidness. That’s a different subject than the reviews of movement progressives on NN10. As I wrote earlier, I thought Pres. Obama’s video to NN was condescending, as is the talk of more “effort,” which I find insultingly puny at this point.

    • NoFortunateSon 26 July 2010 at 6:54 pm #

It’s an interesting pairing, but Alan Grayson did not get along well with the Clintons back in 2008. I don’t know if that relationship has healed.

  8. BuckHill 26 July 2010 at 6:44 pm #

Well, I think most Democrats are reasonable people.

TM sounds almost like she’d like to join in on the fun at the Wilshire since she seems to have a fetish for Republican fun and games. Of course they’ll raise money with Breitbart they’re all fucking racists what do you expect? Particularly after left leaning punditry fell all over themselves blaming the administration for the ratfucking the right wing did to them. Right wing punditry would have been all over the ratfucker (betrayus anyone?) all we get is Ed Schultz calling the President a pussy.

And we wonder why we lose to these guys
