This is your Democratic Party under Pres. Obama. Speaker Pelosi calls them her “majority makers.” It explains so much.
Why we need schmucks like Rep. Bobby Bright in Congress, labeled as a Democrat, is beyond me. He votes like a Republican, he is not at all progressive or even remotely Democrat, so his interests are not close to compatible with what Harry Truman’s Democratic Party resembled.
Lose the seat and get a tighter, more focused coalition on the same wave length.
Jake Tapper has a lot more “independent” Dem ads similar to the one above, though at least the others don’t tout being an “independent conservative” while running as a Democrat.

Conservadud.
it’s the conservadud realignment… way to turn that map blew blew blew..as in our Democratic brand blown away
Those of who tried to warn about this during the ’08 primaries were told we were “low info” voters…
Looks like all the “high information” voters had the same quality of info that W. used to start unnecessary war.
[[Looks like all the “high information” voters had the same quality of info that W. used to start unnecessary war.]]
That was funny…
I find “low-information” to be SUCH a deragatory (sp?? way too tired to look it up) term. Just because some of us are political junkies doesn’t mean all of us are, or even if they are, they don’t necessarily have the time to indulge this craving. My husband is reasonably well-read, reads newspapers, news magazines, etc. — and I know TONS more stuff than he does, simply because he has less time and/or spends it in different ways. That doesn’t make him “low-informtaion.” It makes him busy volunteering and living his life.
“Majority makers,” turning the Democratic Party more Republican, one seat at a time … Maybe that’s only obvious to the “low information” voters, though.
And as another aside — I absolutely hate the idea that being a Democrat (or a Republican or any other label) means you have to vote with your party. Good God let’s just appoint some sort of ruler, who dictates all votes, in that case. Dispense with representative government all together!
How about representing the people who sent you to DC in the first place? I find the Obama agenda thus far to be abhorrenet, in terms of expansion of government to no good effect and more smoke and mirrors than actual accomplishment. And the economy? Please. I’ve lost clients and am now working part-time at a job I never thought I’d have, to make ends meet and pay for college in the wake of crashing retirement and college accounts. Meanwhile home sales plummet, etc. etc. etc. You better believe some Democrats are running away from the “achievements.” They’re poison. And the Dems have no one but themselves to blame. Ever hear of LISTENING to the people?
I’m on a roll… I have probably never voted GOP in a national election. (Well … I think I voted for Ford in ’76…)
But this year? Bill Foster isn’t getting my vote. He refuses to meet with people, except 1 on 1, because he’s afraid. He holds “telephone town halls.” I participated in one and it was awful. He votes however Pelosi tells him, then spins it her way. Alexi Giannulius? Please — he lost hundreds of millions of parents’ hard-earned education dollars and his family bank is mob-connected, and shut down by the feds, to boot. So I’m forced to choose between him and serial embroiderer Mark Kirk, who at least is fairly moderate.
Dems shot themselves in the foot…
apparently the dems are in full panic as everything goes to hell. politico claims some dems just cant understand why bashing bush isnt working. gee ya think bc u need to run on a real plan to get folsk back to work etc if re elected? who cares about bush jr? the dems are in power. oh dont worry- obama convened his economists today to plan steps to boost the economy. obama plans a oval office speech on the iraq its not war in a few days. uh- clueless. people want a speech on what the hell the dems plan to do for the suffering masses the next 2 yrs if they can hold congress. good lord.
Nothing to worry about.
‘Well, the big difference here and in ’94 was you’ve got me.’
-Obama according to Rep. Marion Berry (Politico Jan. 2010)
Self-preservation, first and foremost. So Democrats throw Democratic leaders, ideas, policy (the other commercials) under the bus. Wonder where or whom they got that from?
My daughter (whose boss lives in DC) told me yesterday that office rental space in DC is now higher than in NYC. They have just hired a firm (one of many) that helps you get business from the government. The Repubs are right on this count government is way too big. I dare say none of the frenic business activity has a thing to do with making things better for the people.
While I in no way want to defend Bobby Bright (with regrets, he is my Congresscritter, but he got there without my vote), I can’t recall the last time that someone who could remotely qualify as a REAL liberal (or, per current parlance, progressive) even made it to the November election in the 2nd district and got more than 30% of the vote (the district has had only 3 representatives since Jan 1965–Bill Dickinson, Terry Everett and Bright; the first 2 were elected AS Republicans). This section of Alabama is conservative to the point of reactionary; the fact is that the most right-wing, die-hardest conservative Democrats switched to the GOP during the Reagan and Bush 1 years with the “moderate” Democrats (who are still far to the right of the National Party) feeling a need to tout their “conservative” “Alabama values” every election cycle in order to retain their seats. (Interesting side note on the Bright issue–in 2008, Harri Anne Smith lost the GOP nomination to Jay Love, and Ms Smith chose to endorse Bright over Love. Earlier this year, when Ms Smith decided to run for office, the State’s GOP leadership ruled that she couldn’t do so as a Republican because of her public support of Bright. She managed to get enough votes to qualify for the ballot as an independent. What was so laughable about this is the fact that the State’s Democratic Party has punished those running for office under the Democratic label over the past decade or so for their public endorsement of a GOP candidate over a Democrat and the GOP has criticized this Dem Party rule as “unAmerican” yet the State GOP has received almost no criticism–from anyone–over its own hypocrisy. Back to the comment already in progress.)
Anyway, when Bright ran in 2008, the Love campaign ran ads that used an edited (shocking, I know) piece that showed how Bright would be a steadfast supporter of an Obama presidency and the “extreme leftwing policies” of Nancy Pelosi and crew. For his part, Bright campaigned as an independent Democrat who would listen to both sides. We haven’t seen any of the ads for the general election yet, but I will note that Bright, even as an “independent conservative Democrat” will vote with the Dems and Obama far more often than his GOP challenger, Martha Roby, will.
Am I happy with Bright? No. Not in the least. But I know what will happen if Roby wins. We’ll get pretty much the same voting record but with the added risk that it’s one less (D) when it comes to control of Congress. Maybe the Dems need some good scares this year to get off their collective asses and do some work. I would rather, however, not have it come from flipping a (relatively) open-minded conservative Democrat to a die-hard conservative Republican who will vote as the GOP dictates.
I supported Hillary but joylessly voted for Obama and tried to focus on the promise of “hope and change”.
We are seeing a trainwreck and the democratic party doesn’t know it. Obama is an aloof and incompetent narcissist and the lack of competence, focus and clarity is mind numbing.
It’s obvious that we’ve been snookered, and blaming the GOP and Bush isn’t going to make it. Obama knew as we all did that the Bush stimulus heralded a financial burn out.
Obama promised what he cannot or will not deliver. The ensuing vacuum in the democratic party is a disaster.
There has been doublespeak, missed opportunities, and a tone deaf arrogance which has prevented connection with the electorate.
Democrats will pay dearly for their collective lack of spine along with Obama’s crass indifference and incompetence. We all have been snookered.
