Dr. Laura has a new friend and not surprisingly, she’s as confused about the Constitution as Dr. Laura. Sarah Palin opines on Twitter that Schlessinger “Steps aside bc her 1st Amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence ‘isn’t American, not fair.’” These two anti-feminist whiners don’t get tough when things get rough, they simply wilt and walk away.
Not exactly role models for women today, who face an even more competitive work environment. Sarah and Laura evidently don’t get that most women who work can’t simply fold when they instead have no choice but to fight.
It will be interesting if she now embraces Sarah Palin, whom as McCain’s vice presidential pick she didn’t approve, because she deemed Sarah a bad mother. Via Dr. Laura’s site:
Child-care facilities are a necessity when mothers and fathers (when they exist at all) are unwilling or incapable of caring for their offspring. Unfortunately, they have become a mainstay of the feminista mentality that nothing should stand in the way of a woman’s ambition – nothing, including her family.
Any full-time working wife and mother knows that the family takes the short end of the stick. Marriages and the welfare of children suffer when a stressed-out mother doesn’t have time to be a woman, a wife, and a hands-on Mommy.
What perfect allies they would make. Retro, anti-feminist, anti women’s freedom “mama grizzlies.” They represent what would happen if the Republican Tea Party held power.
But you really have to marvel at the new female representatives of the right wing cliterati, a phrase I coined in the ’90s when Dr. Laura held a lot of power (with a nod to Christopher Buckley for using a similar term even earlier, only to refer to Sally Quinn). They think the rules don’t apply to them. Their elitist victimization, all from the perch of wealth they made themselves, which is laudable, allows them to take a Jet Blue ramp out of reality, because they can’t admit they’ve blown it. Instead, it’s always the fault someone else, in this case, some “special interest” group, or it’s the media.
Interesting that these conservative females think chastising a whole gender for believe freedom isn’t just for men is positive messaging; that gays and lesbians are second class citizens; and that over one billion Muslims in the world all should pay for fanatics who struck this country on 9/11. Even more frightening is the notion that marginalizing Muslims through Cordoba House bigotry will make the U.S. any safer or aid our foreign policy goals in the world. Sarah and Dr. Laura also believing in a culture of militarism, which is a global bill this country can no longer pay.
Making up your own rules and remaking yourself is critical to surviving as you get older, no one knows that better than I do. However, very few people sit on the catbird seat of life with the luxury of walking away without paying real life consequences. In today’s economy, that goes double, especially for women, particularly for women of color.
Sarah and Dr. Laura prove once again the anti feminist model. Neither speak to the challenging modern adventure women confront today.

So true Taylor. The reality in our country is that anyone with a job has no choice but to suck it up and make the best of it. There have been plenty of stories in this recession about women now becoming the main breadwinner.
I think of my 33 year old daughter who in the last two months has had a house fire, skin cancer removed from her crown and in that last week has gone to work everyday suffering from a intestinal virus(a gift from Sam)because she can’t miss any more work.It makes me furious that hags like these two would lecture her on her responsibilities.
Bless you daughter’s heart, LLady.
Yeah, I don’t begrudge people who make their own money, so have options most don’t. But I resent it when these women rally people to their cause without telling them the truth that they don’t have their options.
It’s the Republican syndrome of exalting people on the right who are rich, but whose policies don’t allow for others to get there too.
Right-wing radio has helped middle class, blue collar workers pine for the American dream for 2 decades, while selling them a political party that has no means for the average Joe to get there.
Well no surprises there, there was no way Mrs Pitbull was going to stay out of this. I am yet to see a controversy in which she does not gleefully jump into, on the contrary the more outrageous the better, especially if she can stir some sort of cultural or religious resentment between “real Americans” and all the others or can smear Obama and his wife in the process. She cannot care less if the fake Dr criticized her in 2008, as the saying goes the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
So true!
You mentioned “Cordoba House”. If there is any question about what this Islamic center is all about, look up on google “Islam” and “Cordoba Spain”. Find out for yourselves what the name “Cordoba” means to the muslims and then decide for yourselves why it might be so important to build this mosque so close to gorund zero.
OK, I must admit that I am curious. I googled Islam and Cordoba Spain and nothing scared me or helped me understand better the hysteria around the cordoba house.
I visited Andalusia 5 year ago, it is an absolutely gorgeous part of Spain where the Muslim influence is undeniable. Cordoba itself is a jewel, and was presented to us as a city dominated by muslims (during the golden age of muslim Spain) but where christians and jews were free to retain their faith and as a place of religious and ethnic tolerance. If you have the opportunity I highly recommend the region, for its culture and landscape. It gets really really hot in summer though, but you may come back with a different perception of Islam.
Please do tell what you think Cordoba means to muslims.
Very interesting.
I had read that Muslims like to erect Victory Mosques in or on places that formerly held Christian churches or Jewish temples, but, I didn’t know the history of Cordoba, till now.
Interestingly still, this Rauf guy doesn’t condemn Hamas. Makes me not trust him. This whole issue stinks to me. Why is he so insistent upon building this mosque close to 9/11? What about religious tolerance and compassion? It is inappropriate, even if it is legal. He is trying to provoke.
WHOA!! Taylor,
you’re really turning up the vitriol on Sarah Palin, lately!
I can’t speak about Dr. Laura, because I have never followed or listened to her, but, Palin is NOT retro, anti-feminist or anti women’s freedom’s. Palin is anti abortion, but Pro Woman Power all the way. I understand you don’t like her politics, but, please quit exaggerating.
Yeah Pro women’s powers as long as it fits nicely within the Republican orthodoxy of a paternal hiearchy. Please!!In addition it is fine if her own morals and religious faith make her anti abortion for herself but imposing that on ALL women is NOT supporting women’s freedom to follow their own sense of morals and religious belief. How powerful is any woman who has no power over her own body?
Please LL, I don’t buy your paternal hierarchy crap. There a lot of powerful WOmen in the Republican party.
And also, a pregnant woman shares her body with another living human being. Or do you not consider a baby in the womb a living human being?
Palin does not impose her beliefs on anyone, but, if you ask her what she believes, she will tell you. She has a right, just as you do. Thank god we all do!
I thought with Sarah Palin hanging out with her friend Greta Van Susteren in Alaska, she has been on Greta show for the past few days, don’t no why Sarah would comment on Dr. Laura. I disagree with Sarah Palin on her social views because I am pro-choice and pro gay marriage, but the picture above saying she nevers says anything, but I like the way she says it, their are people who see themselves in Sarah. She is the girl brought up in a rural state to become a councilwoman to mayor to a governor to become the first republican woman to ever be on a national ticket and the second woman to ever do so. She seems to be doing very well, from Fox News to a show that going to be on TLC to a book coming out in Novemeber, and she is getting good money from speechs and other things, she could do so much more if she was moderate and could at least meet people different from her views. She really needs to get out of that bubble like the president has with his advisors and go to the urban areas and meet people with different views and cultures. Maybe being a celebrity will do that for her who knows !!
How quickly we go off topic.
At the end of the day saying the N word repeatedly is wrong. Does anyone here disagree with the sentiment?
Sure she’s using her first amendment rights, while simultaneously abusing them.
It nice Sarah will stand by a woman who says such incendiary things. Birds of a feather flock together.
Stupid is as stupid does
