CBS Affiliate, Joe Miller and Sarah Palin

Let’s begin with Sarah Palin tweeting “those corrupt bastards.”

The Alaska Senate candidate that Sarah Palin endorsed, Joe Miller, has cratered, putting one of Palin’s political adversaries, Lisa Murkowski, in the position to possibly get re-elected. In the middle of this tableau comes a weird audio from a CBS affiliate that has reporters caught in a garbled conversation on tape.

All hell’s broken loose, with Sarah Palin accusing CBS on Fox News of targeting Joe Miller with dirty tricks. However, one Fox reporter who has looked into it says there’s no evidence to support Palin’s charges.

As for the KTVA tape, could it possibly be a bunch of reporters blowing off steam and having a laugh?

The statement from the KTVA General Manager Jerry Bever of the CBS affiliate doesn’t clear up anything, but adds to the notion it might be just that. From Ben Smith:

A press release issued Saturday October 30, 2010, by the Joe Miller campaign claims that KTVA personnel, “openly discuss creating, if not fabricating, two stories about Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, Joe Miller.” KTVA General Manager Jerry Bever says, “It’s unfortunate that this recording has happened. It’s unfortunate because it does not accurately reflect the journalistic standards of our newsroom and the garbled context will no doubt leave more questions than answers. The Miller campaign’s analysis of the recording is incorrect in many material ways ranging from personnel involved in the conversation, the interpretation of conversation snippets and the reported transcript of the perceived garbled conversation.”

“While the recording is real, the allegations are untrue,” said Bever. “The recording was the result of a cell phone not being hung up after a call was placed to Randy DeSoto, Joe Miller campaign spokesperson, Thursday afternoon to discuss Joe Miller’s appearance on that evening’s newscast. That phone call was placed near the end of a coverage planning meeting in our newsroom regarding that evening’s Miller rally in downtown Anchorage. The group of KTVA news personnel was reviewing potential “what-if” scenarios, discussing the likelihood of events at the rally and how KTVA might logistically disseminate any breaking news.” …

“The perception that this garbled, out of context recording may leave is unfortunate, but to allege that our staff was discussing or planning to create or fabricate stories regarding candidate Miller is absurd. The complete conversation was about what others might be able to do to cause disruption within the Miller campaign, not what KTVA could do.”

David Brock of Media Matters has called on Sarah Palin to release the entire tape, after she made charges of journalistic malfeasance against CBS.

Andrew Breitbart, the man who was humiliated in the doctored Shirley Sherrod video, posted some of the KTVA audio of on Big Government.

Sarah Palin has made a serious charge, which she has a responsibility to back up, while CBS’ statement just adds more mystery to the plot that might be absolutely nothing.

Speculating here for a moment, but if it turns out that Palin is churning the charges up to help Joe Miller she’ll look very silly.

It will also be more ammunition for the Republican establishment who’s already turning toward 2012, predictably beginning a campaign to stop Sarah from making moves on the nomination. The old boys’ club never learns, because all these types of stories will do is play into Palin’s hands.

Once again, the Righteous Right – with Sarah Palin as their queen – simply want to go ‘Back’ – back to when minorities stayed in their place, and women were kept ignorant and in the kitchen (“barefoot and pregnant”). Thus their love for Sarah, Sharon Angle, and Christine O’Donnell. Fiorina and Whitman are only slightly better. Come to think of it, Rand Paul and Joe Miller are kind of wussy, too. *LoL*

Sarah Palin. The Politico article is interesting. But, one thing that should be mentioned about this ‘stop Sarah Palin movement’ inside the Republican Party. In politics; regardless, of party, are people’s desire to be close to power, being around power, being part of power. So the people that expressed their concerns are more worried with their own vested interests than with the Republican party or Palin’s presidential viability.

This will be seen on Tuesday night and the days following the election on the Democratic side. These people will adjust their views/positions/anaysis to maintain their revelancy.

Now back to Sarah Palin. It’s time for people to actually take a serious look/approach to Palin. Now before everyone gets all riled up, this does not mean that people should consider her; but instead, realize that she is a credible threat.

The recent article in the NYT magazine, showed the dismissiveness of her from the polical arm inside the administration. The comment of immediately dismissing Palin, then Romney and coming to the conclusion that the Republican nominee will be Huckabee. Or, Plouffe’s statement that we can only hope or wish that Palin will be the nominee. These people’s judgments are based on their arrogance, their own view of their self-importance. Also these people did not do a stellar job when it came to the mid-terms.

Is she a threat? To the repugnantklan party fer sure.
If the crazies accumulate enough juice in the repugnantklan party via the teabaggers, and LOWDY knows they be PLENTY of shithouse rat crazy confederate wannabees in the repug party, she WILL win the nomination.

Anyone buy the explanation that they were merely discussing “What If” scenarios? I certainly don’t.

In any event, a PPP poll has Miller up by several points. From my understanding, it’s quite difficult to poll AK, so I have no idea if that’s a legitimate figure or not, but it makes more sense than others I’ve seen.

Murkowski is now saying she’s not sure if she’ll caucus with the GOP or Dems. That is the same tactic Crist took, and it’s really solidified Rubio’s lead in FL. We’ll see if it works for Lisa. My guess is that she’ll lose more conservative voters who might have stayed loyal to her, while the true Dems won’t trust her enough to move away from the real Dem. Just my guess.

The AK election process was amazing to watch. And nobody watching it could disagree much with Sarah’s assessment: It’s corrupt as heck.

Trust in government is at an all-time low. This is exactly why, too. And the research shows that the media is lumped right in with the government this year. We have a story here that shows why that is. They both have earned these low marks.

The Politico article is precisely why the people have stormed primaries to rid themselves of the established politico types from the party.

People are fed up with the GOP establishment, too.

Again, with good reason. What a sorry bunch if they are honestly trying to circumvent people’s votes.

    • secularhumanizinevoluter 01 November 2010 at 11:35 am #

Where you been skippy? The repugnantklan/teabaggers absolutely HATE democracy and our form of elected Government. Why do you think they spend so much time and effort trying to KEEP people from voting?

I think the adminisration’s problems go back to the very beginning and the decision to not make anyone accountable from some in the Bush/Cheney regime to the bankers who committed fraud. A few “perp walks” would indeed have set a new tone that our country was ready to clean house and get back to core principles.

I disagree with pmichael and others that all in the Tea Party are racist, sexists who want to take us back to the social mores of the fifties. I would venture to guess that a sizable number of them mean back to a time of accountability.

They have done a terrible job of policing out the nutjobs and it has painted the whole movement with too broad a brush.

Old fashioned Dems like me ( I don’t expect the faux progressives to ever understand this and they should be left in the dust to their own devices) have got to start to realize that change is going to happen from the bottom up.Tea partiers have realized this. We need to get with it.Any meaningful progressive change has come from a movement of the people. People were distracted and fooled by Obama’s use of the language of the community organizer.

I couldn’t POSSIBLY agree more. Will this country EVER actually hold polititions or the rich accountable for the FAR more destructive crimes against society and the world they committ? It would go a LONG wat towards restoring some trust and faith in our gov. and pols if they had some perp walks for the torture in chief, darth cheney and some of these finacial confidence gaming creatures that have wrecked the whole WORLDS economy for their OWN personnal gain.

2.”I disagree with pmichael and others that all in the Tea Party are racist, sexists who want to take us back to the social mores of the fifties.”
You will have to show some proof for that. While I may accept that not every single teabagger IS a racist, when you JOIN a group who have been showm EMPERICALLY to be racist….
3.” I would venture to guess that a sizable number of them mean back to a time of accountability.”
When exactly was this “time of accountability” they want to go back to?!!!!!

4.”They have done a terrible job of policing out the nutjobs and it has painted the whole movement with too broad a brush.”
The “nut jobs” STARTED them, The “nut jobs” are RUNNING the local chapters. Sorry, they are NUT JOBS and racists in the higher echelons. The grunts are simply to stupid to be rational.

5.”Old fashioned Dems like me ( I don’t expect the faux progressives to ever understand this and they should be left in the dust to their own devices) have got to start to realize that change is going to happen from the bottom up.”
OK, I’m witcha on that one!

    5.”Tea partiers have realized this.”
    Pardon me but….BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

6.” We need to get with it.Any meaningful progressive change has come from a movement of the people. People were distracted and fooled by Obama’s use of the language of the community organizer.”
More like his use of the language of the telavangilist conman. That and Chicago/thuggery in the trenches of the primary.

    • Lake Lady 01 November 2010 at 1:47 pm #

Ha! Well we agree on most points. I have to admit that I don’t know any tea party people personally but I do know some people who are “sympathetic” and they are normal “moderate republicans”. That is not to say that they don’t have bias but I would not call them racist.

  7. Lake Lady 01 November 2010 at 1:48 pm #

As for accountability…well people in the Nixon administration were held accountable.
