A Place In Hell is Reserved

This is an adorable shot of “Patrick,” but there’s a reason he’s surrounded by cushy stuffed animals and his body covered. I simply didn’t have the stomach to post the shot of what shape he was in when he was discovered.

It’s at the link, but be prepared, because it will crack your heart wide open and release rage you might well rather leave untapped.

A New Jersey woman has been charged with four counts of animal cruelty after authorities accused of her dumping a starved 1-year-old pit bull down a trash chute. – New Jersey Woman Accused Of Dumping Dog Down Trash Chute

Kisha Curtis, the accused, should get a lot more than 6 months in jail. I have no idea whether she can afford the $1000 fine, but community service in an animal shelter should be added.

As a lifelong bird rescuer and animal lover, but also someone who sees a creature through to the end, I get a sense of overwhelm with stories like this. I won’t let my husband talk about the animal shelters he’s seen over his years as a tech, because I can’t bear them. One of the seminal moments of my life was seeing “Old Yeller.” It sent me to bed for a week. I’m just a wimp when it comes to creatures.

The picture here is of a fox that visits us regularly. I know the drill about not feeding wild creatures, which we refrain from doing for obvious reasons; seeing starving animals is simply beyond my ability to ignore. Yesterday he came up on our porch to grab a peanut laid out for birds. We put down some very pricey wet food from Blue Wilderness, the duck variety (grain free), which, incredibly, our cats will not touch (though since recently switching them to Blue Wilderson they seem to enjoy the dry variety). The fox wouldn’t touch it either, but loves the way I prepare chicken.

Here’s a link to the Associated Humane Societies (and Popcorn Zoo – New Jersey) to get updates on how Patrick is doing.

    Started wagging his tail today!

One of the very few organizations I give too. They do good work. Got my dog from their Newark location.

People should remember that in this economy animals also suffer. With the lack of jobs, and people losing their homes, a lot of animals end up at the shelter. Good ones, well behaved, trained, etc. So if anyone is considering getting a pet, check your local animal shelter.

      YIPPEE!!!

…though I realize from rescuing creatures that this doesn’t mean Patrick will survive.

Light & love to this sweet doggy.

I’m a HUGE believer in shelter dogs… both Darby and Cashmere were rescued from “kill shelters” shortly before their time was up… I shudder every time I think about what their fate would have been had we not visited the shelters on the days that we did…

This story pulls on the heart strings Taylor !! I think its so evil to abuse a animal. I also think there needs to be more strict laws on animal mistreatment. Animals especially dogs and cats have saved people’s lives. Dogs are mans bestfriend and they are loyal. You should always treat them right. I believe some people should not have kids because they don’t no how to raise them, I say the same for animals. Don’t ever mistreat a animal !! I believe in Karma when it comes to things like this.

Oh Taylor~ Old Yeller was one of my childhood tramuas too.

My daughter does all her activism in this area. She does a yearly drive around our lake for a rescue shelter. She always gets alot of good stuff and money. Lots of animal lovers around here.

We have a pact with each other, we don’t tell each other sad animal stories because it impacts us both so much.

Just the look in Patrick’s eyes will stay with me for days.

Go Patrick… absolutely breaks my heart… Major animal lover here…

When the kids were young, we had Darby (basset beagle), a cockatiel (Ivan), a parakeet (Malibu), bunnies (Houdini and Schne), a guinea pig (Carmel Edward Twitch), a boa (caveman), and a bearded dragon lizard (Spikey)…. and MANY goldfish in our pond… They had great lives and provided much happiness to our family..(well… the goldfish may have experienced a lot of fright from racoons and herons)… Now we just have Cashmere (our dog)… and she provides so much pleasure for us.. Happiness is life with pet friends and I simply cannot tolerate any mistreatment of them… One of the reasons I still have issues with Michael Vick… grrr…. How can people behave in this fashion…
